Job Title : Research Physiotherapist
Reports Directly to : Neuro Assessment Coordinator
Staff Reporting to Position : None
Department : Medical Services

JOB PURPOSE
To carry out physical and neurodevelopmental assessments, therapy interventions, and rehabilitation working in conjunction with the multidisciplinary research team.

Key Result Areas Activities
Research function
• Provide high-quality physiotherapy assessment and intervention for clients within the context of the study research protocols and in keeping with accepted best practice.
• Assists in the administration of standardized neurocognitive and other clinical assessment tools to study patients and/or their families
• Provide input into the development of clinical procedures and protocols within the department.
• Ensure integrated multidisciplinary patient care and follow up, coordinating and communicating as required with both team members within the hospital, and other relevant external partners in care
• Provide follow-up monitoring and care as directed through health outcomes’ assessments like the Bayley’s, vinelands, and the modified Ashworth’s scale
• Deliver education sessions to clients participating in research projects in areas relevant to physiotherapy service provision as required
• Support the regular monitoring and tracking of participants’ care and rehabilitation progress; working to support the implementation of changes in response to identified gaps.
• Support function to Hospital Physiotherapist
• Supports and assists the hospital physiotherapist in patient management
• Provide assessment, plans, care and delivers a range of physical treatments to resolve, restore or maintain physical-based conditions
• Provides treatment to reduce pain, increase mobility and limit secondary functional disability providing effective and evaluated individualized programs of care
• Assesses, treats, and monitors mobility problems providing appropriate assistance from walking aids and supports
• Adheres to CHU and MOH standards of patient care, treatment protocols, and documentation.
• Participates in ward rounds to communicate treatment plans and supports the medical team in providing holistic patient-centered care
• Provides support to the medical multidisciplinary team by providing physiotherapy based assessment of the patient’s physical conditions
• Ensures the patient needs and progress is communicated to other members of the medical multidisciplinary team as appropriate
• Attends the medical multidisciplinary team reviews as appropriate
• Communicates effectively with all other CHU staff to ensure successful patient care from every discipline within the hospital.
• Maintains accurate and comprehensive treatment notes keeping a clinical record of treatment interventions.
• Demonstrates ongoing personal development by undertaking relevant training including CME activities as may be organized inside or outside the hospital
• Represents the hospital at physiotherapy related activities as required
• Requisitions for supplies necessary for physiotherapy work, and keeps a record of their inventory and use.
• Reports any malfunction of equipment to the immediate supervisor or appropriate person (s) as soon as possible.

Spiritual Ministry
Participates in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.

Occupational Health & Safety observed.
• All staff members are expected to work in such a way that does not cause injury to themselves, other staff members, or customers.
• Following & complying with H&S policies, processes & applying them to their own work activities, including using/wearing Personal Protective Equipment as required.
• Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting wellbeing in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
• Early and accurate reporting of incidents at work and raising issues of concern when identified.

Job Requirements
• A completed diploma or Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy from a recognized institution
• 1 to 3 years experience in a pediatric rehabilitation facility
• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professional’s Council
• Experience in providing assessment, intervention, and rehabilitation management for children with disabilities.
• Must be willing to learn other clinical technician functions
• Good communication skills with peers, superiors, physicians, patients, and their families
• Ability to handle or process confidential documents or material in an appropriate manner
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, establish priorities, and work independently
• Team player.
