Job Description


NUHI is a Community Base Organization is a not-for-profit development organization currently undertakes donor funded programming within 5 districts in Northern Uganda.
As from January 2019, NUHI in partnership with the district local governments of: Kabong, Abim,
Moroto, Nakapiripirit and kotido have been implementing the Austrian Development Agency funded Improving Water Supply Sustainability (IWAS II) in Northern Uganda. The project focuses on strengthening and operationalizing the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) systems for sustainability hinged on the Sub-County Water Supply Sustainability board (SWSSB) structure. No new facilities are constructed, but focus is on strengthening the existing structures for O&M in 850-point water sources benefiting 212,500 people in 20 sub counties. The Project is in its final year of implementation with strong indications for an extension.

Position title: Facility WASH Assistant (5 Positions)
Location: Kabong, Abim, Moroto, Nakapiripirit and kotido
Report to: Medical Officer Job overview/summary

The Facility WASH Assistant will be responsible for the direct implementation of WASH related activities in the facilities and community in the catchment area. S/he will develop and/adapt guidelines for the implementation of WASH and Infection prevention and control activities in the Settlement. S/he will be responsible for Infection prevention and control activities at the health facilities and the Community and liaise with key stakeholders to address facility WASH related issues. Monitor and supervise facility based infection prevention and control interventions. S/he will conduct training of Health Workers on the appropriate practices on IPC; monitor hygiene and environmental sanitation in the community and ensure refuse collection and disposal in accordance to public health laws.

Responsibilities:
Key activities:
Participate in facility based WASH activities in the health facilities and community within the catchment area.
• Conducts facility WASH assessment needs and make appropriate recommendations for interventions.
• Compile relevant basic facility WASH data and submit to the supervisor.
• Liaise with Local Authorities in organizing home/facility WASH improvement competition.
• Adhere to Professional Code of Conduct and Ethics.
• Participating in research activities
• Compile and submit periodic activities reports.

Qualifications:
Education:
• Must have a Diploma in Environmental Health Science, diploma in civil engineering or water engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.

Experience:
• At least 3 years working experience as a Wash health worker.
• At least one year working in a comprehensive primary health care program with refugees or conflict‐affected populations preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent analytic and problem solving skills
• Experience in assessments,
• Computer skill in MS word, MS Excel is an advantage.
