Job Description

Kulika Uganda whose mission is to provide relevant skills and technologies to empower rural communities is the leading on – ground implementing partner of a project on refugee-led off-grid energy innovation in Rhino Camp in Arua, West Nile region. The project is for one year from September 2021 to August 2022. This project will train refugees in the design process so that they can learn how to design new off-grid energy products for their needs. Kulika uses a training curriculum, called Creative Capacity Building (CCB) to train people in design regardless of their literacy and education levels.
Kulika already has an on-going project in Rhino Camp, training refugees in CCB to design projects for income generation. They have instructors trained to give CCB trainings and have a temporary center with tools, materials and equipment. The training is for one week and is delivered for about 15 people at a time. Participants continue working on the projects after the training with mentorship from the instructors. For the new program, Kulika will first implement a community assessment on energy needs, consulting refugees about what kinds of energy products are most important to them. Then they will conduct 3 CCB trainings to develop low cost energy products made from local materials. These will be followed by a cocreation workshop to further develop the most promising prototypes. In between the workshops, Kulika staff will provide mentoring and follow up for the CCB participants who want to improve their prototypes as well as hold outreach activities to engage people to make simple energy savings products.
