Job Description
Our client is an NGO seeking for a very dynamic and self-driven professional to join its team in the role of ACCOUNTANT.
Reports to: The Finance Manager
Work Station: This role is based in Kampala, Uganda.
Key Functions:
S/he will be responsible for management and coordination of the Finance, Administration and NGO programmes to ensure that the Key Performance Indicators are consistently met in accordance with the business and operational objectives of the NGO; ensuring tax compliance in accordance with the NGO policy, statutory frameworks, and International Financial Reporting Standards.
The Accountant provides assistance to the Finance Manager in meeting the financial service of the programs including but not limited to field office financial and business controls, reporting and analysis of office advances, review and reimburse travel claims, medicine inventory reports and logistics, preparation of checks for signing, processing procurement of vehicles, equipment , computers, filter material, and other items as necessary, review and reconciliation of receipt and disbursement documentation, financial status reports and travel advances and other accounting duties as required.
The key result areas for the Accountant are to:
• Ensure transparency, accountability and effective use of financial resources in line with the set financial systems and guidelines
• Ensure timely budgeting, management and reporting of finances as well as compliance to accounting regulations in an NGO
• Ensure timely completion of key financial plans and processes
• Provide a prudent income and expenditure control for thorough inventory and asset management
• Enrich systems of financial monitoring and control to better align policies, practices and procedures with international accounting standards
• Supervise the finance and administration function of the NGO operations.
• Build capacity of the employees in basic financial management
• Risk analysis and management
Academic Qualifications & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
• CPA/ACCA certified is an added advantage
• Basic understanding of project management
• Minimum of four years’ experience in a similar role preferably with an international NGO
• Experience with computerized ledger systems is required with a minimum of consecutive 4 years usage

• Strong ethics with an ability to manage confidential data
• Experience in donor funding and grants management
• Agile and able to work in a fast paced environment
• Visionary, proactive with good sense of judgment/discernment
• Excellent computer skills and knowledge of use of key accounting software
• Great interpersonal skills, negotiation skills and reporting /proposal writing skills
• Ability to develop and propose automated and manual solutions to improve the current accounting procedures and workflow
