Job Description


Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd. [KCL] is a member of the Volcafe group, the coffee division of ED&F Man. It is the oldest and largest coffee exporter in Uganda and the first to become ISO 9001:2008 certified. We buy Arabica and Robusta in all coffee producing regions and export about 15% of Uganda’s coffee production to over 30 consuming countries around the world. The company heavily invests in Uganda’s coffee infrastructure and people. Our quality-oriented business strategy aims to lift up the entire coffee sector and improve the quality perception of Ugandan Arabica and Robusta around the globe.
To ensure we can deliver on our service level to our global network, we are looking for a Finance Controller to join our team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Controller will act as the chief accountant, overseeing all accounting activities and ensuring Integrity of the chart of accounts and subsequent trial balance.
He or She will work with the SFC within the F&A team’s transformation pillars as below:
Controllership
• Full ownership and responsibility for integrity of the master data framework and chart of accounts.
• Full Ownership of complete General ledger including accurate & timely TB reconciliations of all ledger accounts and maintenance of documentation and qualitative commentary.
• Responsible for Data lead lags & online, accurate data entry (including processes to ensure the same) & all subsequent reconciliations.
• Take lead to support CFO/SFC in month-end, quarterly, bi- annual and year-end close processes.
• Ensure process adherence in all financial transactions and reporting.
• Support external tax and compliance related requirements and reporting and Collaborate with Compliance Officer to ensure proper compliance with all regulations both internal and external.
• Ownership of all banking controls.
• Oversight & Supervision of all Unit & HO accountants as per their KRA’s (key review Areas) including any ad hoc deliveries.
• Coordinate the preparation of internal/ external audit requests in line with any usual/ ad hoc requirements and support timely responses/ implementation of approved audit recommendations.
• Assist the SFC and CFO in preparing reports for senior management, stakeholders, and board members.
Performance Manager
• Assist in preparation of annual budgets and responsible for monthly reporting of budgets versus actuals for all fixed and variable costs across units and flagging issues/ highlighting sustainable cost saving opportunities.
• Reporting on ageing of stocks and receivables, including receivables collections.
• Working closely with SFC to share performance reports including qualitative recommendations.
• Suggest process improvements focusing on improving performance indicators.
• Drive standardisation and subsequent automation of repetitive tasks and reporting requirements.
Value Manager
• Ensure compliance with all Internal financial and accounting policies and guidelines including authorisation matrixes by driving zero tolerance on controllable losses.
• Take lead and work with SFC and CFO to ensure value retention through Insurance for all residual risks.
• Drive finance transformation with SFC & CFO to improve synergy within the team and enhance collaboration with stakeholders in trade, commercial & operations, logistics, IT and corporate.
Strategic Partnering
• Advises departments on best practices and partnering with them to develop solutions to achieve the goals of the business helping to drive execution of Organisational goals and the finance transformation agenda.
• Align subordinates’ short-term goals for maximum impact on finance transformation and organization strategy.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with the following skills, experience, and knowledge:
• Professional qualification e.g. ACCA/ CMA/ CIMA/ CPA with current membership exceeding 3 years a must.
• Bachelor’s degree or MBA in finance, accounting or related field is an added advantage.
• 5+ years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, with at least 2 years as a senior/ or chief accountant within a large finance department.
• Experience within trade commodities Industry required.
• Experience Microsoft office tools; most importantly MS Excel.
• Experience with project management and IT implementations.
• A good team player with ability to work independently and lead cross functional teams.
• High attention to detail and open minded with a quick learning curve.
• Ability to work with diverse cultures
• Dynamic and with an ability to manage self.
