Main Purpose of Job
The Political and Visits Officer is based at The British High Commission (BHC) Kampala. The BHC is located in a purpose-built compound which offers excellent office accommodation. It is a very friendly team. The job holder will be responsible for ensuring the smooth running of administrative functions in support of the political and governance team.
Administration:
• arranging meetings, transport and escorting visitors,
• liaison with political and governance team contacts
• general administration inc. printing and photocopying papers, filing
• organising stationary
• ensuring management of information and contacts is accurate
Correspondence:
leading on official and public correspondence, including drafting replies and filing correspondence. Production, registration and dispatch of official correspondence and documents for meetings.
Visits:
leading on visits for the team, organising programmes, ensuring logistical support, booking accommodation and arranging meetings.
Events:
The role is envisaged to be flexible and will be required to help other members of the team in delivery of the political and governance team objectives. It will require close working with teams across the High Commission and Headquarters in the UK (e.g. transport, security and protocol) to deliver successfully
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
• Ability to prioritise a range of workstreams in order to deliver efficiently
• Ability to work with a range of internal and external stakeholders, a willingness to adapt quickly to changing demands. Excellent IT skills.
Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Previous experience of working in a multinational organisation and/or previous experience of working with Government entities.

WORKING HOURS
The gross, weekly, conditioned working hours of staff at the British High Commission are 38.5. Gross working hours includes lunch breaks. The net, weekly, conditioned working hours of staff at the British High Commission are 34.5. Actual working hours are at the discretion of the High Commissioner, however, are typically:
Monday to Thursday 0830 to 1700 lunch break of one hour
Friday 0830 to 1300 no lunch break
