In 2017, over half the population in Sub-Saharan Africa had no bank account. That’s for good reason—the fees are too high, the closest branch can be miles away, and nobody takes cards. Without access to financial institutions, people are forced to keep their savings under the mattress. Small business owners rely on lenders who charge extortionate rates. Parents spend hours waiting in line to pay school fees in cash.
We’re solving this by building financial services that just work: no account fees, instantly available, and accepted everywhere. In places where electricity, water and roads don’t always work, you can still send money with Wave. In November 2017, we launched a mobile app in Senegal for cash deposit, withdrawal, and peer-to-peer and business payments. In 2019, we expanded to Cote d’Ivoire. Now, we have millions of users and are growing fast. Our goal is to make Africa the first cashless continent. And that’s where you come in….

How You’ll Help Us Achieve It
We are looking for a Head of Security to organize and oversee all security operations at Wave Uganda. Primarily, you will develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain security standards, demonstrate excellent surveillance and emergency response skills, and have a strong commitment to security rules and knowledge of all hazards and threats to safety.

In the role you’ll;
• Evaluate and identify the level of security risks associated with Wave’s operations in Uganda.
• Work closely with the security firms and cash-in-transit operations providers to Wave Uganda.
• Maintain strong relations and cooperation with local law enforcement agencies, civil authorities etc.
• Craft and operationalize Wave Uganda’s cash security policies and procedures.
• Investigate and escalate issues, take action upon detection of suspicious activity, and actively participate in any money loss investigations or any investigations related to cash management.
• Provide comprehensive operations security reports and security briefings as may be applicable.
• Respond to staff queries on security issues and provide immediate assistance as required.
• Other duties may be assigned as the business may require.

Key details
• The location is primarily in Kampala, with possible short-term relocation within the country. All travel expenses are covered by Wave.
• Work authorization in Uganda required
• This is a permanent position.

Requirements
• 7+ years of experience in security operations management, preferably with a fintech company, commercial bank, telecom operator.
• A degree or equivalent from a in Law or any other security-related disciplines
• Experience in representing a company in their interactions with the investigative authorities
• Demonstrated integrity and a solid background in upholding the Law.
• Solid communication and stakeholder management skills
