Job Description
The National Animal Genetic Resources Centre and Data Bank (NAGRC&DB) is a semi-autonomous agency under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries mandated to take a leading role in establishing a comprehensive National Animal Breeding Programme in Uganda. The agency wishes to recruit the following;
Job Title: Fish Technician

Location: Various AnGRCs/Centre Farms (Rubona, Kasolwe, Maruzi )
Overall Job Purpose:
Support fish breeding and production programs on-farm through implementation of regular fish husbandry activities.
Age Limit 25-45 years
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plan and execute fish rearing activities including feeding, grading, sampling, harvesting, sorting, handling, and transportation.
• Undertake fish spawning in all predetermined artificial/natural conditions iii. Monitor the status of facility systems and equipment. iv. Assist in maintenance and cleaning of the fish rearing facilities.
• Make regular facility inspections including, pumps, motors, blowers, diffusers, drains, tanks, screens, filters, feeders, and related equipment. vi. Monitor and maintain water quality levels in optimum ranges. vii. Perform basic manual labour with assistance of the casual staff.
• Support and monitor casual labourers in execution of daily fish husbandry activities. ix. Respond appropriately and immediately to any emergencies in facilities.
• Monitor and manage fish health and welfare throughout all tasks.
• Take and keep detailed and accurate records of all husbandry and other activities. xii. Support any community outreach activities as and when required.
• Perform any other duties assigned to him/her by the farm manager and the program officer.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
• A diploma in Fisheries Management and Technologies or Aquaculture from a recognized institution.
• Should have good communication and interpersonal skills
• Should have at least two (02) years working experience in fish hatchery management and fish management from a reputable organization.
