Job Description


Plan International Uganda communication strategy is designed to facilitate effective communications to a broad range of audiences within and outside Uganda, through strategic and timely flow of accurate information. This strategy is deliberately aligned to Plan International Global Communication Strategy, which is aimed at supporting the delivery of the organisation’s “100 million reasons” Global Strategy. The core focus of the Global Communication strategy is to strengthen the organisation’s positioning and brand visibility.

As part of its strategic response during the 5 years, the  communications strategy is designed with the goal of ensuring that Plan International Uganda is the leading most visible and recognised child-centred NGOs in the country end of 2021

The communications strategy heavily takes into account the reality of meeting the goals of the new Country Strategy (2017-2021), communication ambitions of country office, regional office and global communication demands. Particularly, it has been designed to support the delivery of the five Strategic Programme areas including, Youth Economic Empowerment (YEE), Quality and Inclusion in Early Childhood Development and Primary Education, Strengthening Child Protection Systems. Maternal and Neonatal Child Health and (MNCH) and Adolescent Sexual Reproductive Health (ASRH) and cross cutting programme areas including Gender equality and inclusion, Civil society organizational strengthening and Disaster Risk Management.

Plan International Uganda is currently implementing its programmes in West Nile 1)Nebbi  Adjumani, Yumbe, and Arua); 2) North (Gulu and Lira); 4) Eastern (Bukedea); 5) East Central (Kamuli/Buyende); and Central (Kampala.). Over the 5 year strategic period, Plan International Uganda will be expanding to Karamoja (Napak)

 

(a)Purpose of assignment

Given the above background particularly the goal of the communication strategy, the graduate intern will support the 2 staff currently running the department to meet the increasing Country strategic communication demands and global ambitions.

(b) Main duties and responsibilities in the assignment.

 

  • Working with programme teams to document impact stories for further sharing and profiling the organisation’s work to effectively draw lessons and in line with the Country strategy

 

  • Compiling quarterly newsletters and  bi-monthly bulletins
  • Designing and coordinating the production of IEC materials (such as ,t-shirts, banners, documentaries, photos, posters, fliers and brochures) by working closely with service providers and the procurement team.
  • Working with communication team in planning and organizing internal and public events as well as outreach meetings in line with the Plan International Uganda strategic priorities.

 

  • Participation in promoting Plan International Uganda’s visibility on existing organizational platforms (such as Planet and Media Bank, ) and approved social media sites

 

©         Key deliverables

 

  • # of impact stories documented (along with photos and video clips) and shared per quarter (atleast 1 impact story per Country programme every quarter including Disaster Risk Management )
  • # of quarterly newsletter and bi-monthly bulletins compiled (1 quarterly newsletter, 2 bi-monthlies compiled)
  • # of public  events coordinated and  meetings ( depending on Plan International calendar and  project  events)
  • # of social media posts achieved per quarter ( atleast 3 programme/event related posts every week)
