dfcu Bank is a fast-growing Bank in Uganda offering a wide range of financial solutions to its chosen market segments. We are seeking to recruit for the position of Head of Business Technology (BT) in the Operations (COO) domain.

REPORTING TO: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

JOB PURPOSE: Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the role holder will provide Business Technology (BT) support services to Bank Business Partners, as well as leading a team of IT operations experts to provide advice on technology strategy, technology security and standards, technology architecture management, implementation, and maintenance of these systems, and ensuring the stability and health of the technology services in a client centric manner.

LOCATION: Kampala

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Interpret and execute the business and digital strategies of the Bank, and ensure that the business technology operations work plans, technology deployments and initiatives are fully and accordingly aligned to the Bank’s strategy.
• Provide leadership and motivation to a highly technical IT operations team to partner with the business using technology as an enabler through implementation of innovative products and appropriate automated solutions that exceed customer expectations.
• Define, propose, and advise on the technology and production environment operating models of the Bank including the implementation of the BT operations plan for the Bank’s digital strategy.
• Define, establish, and drive BT Operations departmental metrics/goals and objectives; report department accomplishments and plans on a regular basis.
• Drive and coordinate partnership with the Bank’s Chief Change and Innovation Officer (CCIO) leadership team to meet the business technology investments and needs of the Bank’s mission, vision, and strategic aspirations.
• Develop and implement appropriate IT policies, procedures, and guidelines such as SLA management, IT Security, change management, Configuration management that support the Bank’s operations and ensure efficient and effective use of the Bank’s IT resources.
• Develop and implement a robust IT services continuity and disaster recovery plan for all critical business IT services and operations, ensuring that they are tested on a regular basis.
• Organize and control the planning, deployment, and maintenance of Banks production technology platforms, with overall responsibility for the technology risk management, in liaison with the risk management department, identify key risks within IT and implement appropriate control measures to mitigate them.
• Implement improved IT governance, risk management, controls and compliance requirements that continuously improve the department’s risk profile.
• Provide enterprise technology advisory to the Bank’s senior management team as well advise on the Banks strategic enterprise IT investments.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE and COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• A Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Computer Engineering or other relevant technology and numerical biased degree.
• A relevant Masters or Postgraduate University degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Computing gives additional advantage.
• Professional certification in technology governance and/or leadership e.g. ITIL, CGEIT, CISM, or other relevant professional qualification.
• At least ten (10) years of demonstrable working experience in a busy IT environment of which not less than five (5) years should be at a senior head of IT department or function level.
• Good knowledge as well as experience of best practices in managing technology and human resource performance at an enterprise level.
• Ability to link and apply complex technologies to business strategies with a high proficiency in ICT.
• Ability to deliver impactful technology and data-driven innovation and business solutions, in a complex, diverse environment with multiple changing demands.
• Familiarity with new technologies and digital solutions such as AI, machine learning, Data Science, Robotics, Block Chain, etc.
• A great communicator and visionary with the ability to think strategically as well as nurture and develop excellent business relationships with stakeholders.
• A good understanding of the banking and financial services sector in Uganda and the wider EA region, with a good appreciation of the emerging trends in the industry especially Digital Banking solutions and FinTech.
