Job Description
Position: Medical Laboratory Technician
Numbers of vacancies: 01 position
Location: Kworo Medical Centre and Maternity Care, Pader
Report to: Head of clinical care
Reporting line: In charge of Laboratory
Contract Duration: 01Year Renewable
Persons Specifications;
Qualifications:
• The applicant must hold a Diploma in Medical Laboratory techniques from a recognized Institution.
• He /she MUST be fully registered with the Uganda Allied Health Professionals Council
Should have worked for at least 2-3 years at the same level
Duties and responsibilities:
• Ensure the Laboratory is well organized ready for clients
• Participates in proper collection, handling and transportation of specimens to and within the laboratory
• Liaises with ward managers/nurses in the preparation of patients for laboratory tests
• Carries out laboratory analysis, interprets results and submits reports to clinicians
Ensures that laboratory test orders and results are properly recorded
• Ensure timely requisitions for reagent, equipment and other supplies
• Ensures that all Laboratory equipment are functional and well maintained
• Ensures that the laboratory complies with Infection Prevention Guidelines
• Participates in Internal Quality assurance to laboratories
• Adheres to the relevant codes of conduct and ethics
Submit periodic laboratory reports to the head of clinical services/Supervisor
• Must participate in the weekly continues medical education (CME) together with the rest of the staff
• Work closely with the team to meet the set target by the organization
• Supervise and mentor Laboratory assistant and volunteers
• Performs any other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Competencies Required
• Ability to perform laboratory procedures efficiently and effectively
• Training in Laboratory Quality Management System and Biosafety will be an added advantage.
• Ability to work in deadline driven/results orientated atmospheres
• Strong people management skills
• Must be knowledgeable in basic computer skills (MS Word/Excel
