Responsibilities
Role Purpose
• Primarily responsible for providing strategic leadership in financial matters including execution of the Company’s strategy, driving profitable growth as well as maximizing shareholder value.
• In addition, he/she is responsible for the overall Company Financial Management tasks that involve cash management, budgeting, planning, compliance, organization, reporting, controls, and investments.
Main Responsibilities
• Provide strategic direction on financial matters including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, statutory reporting, audit, and overall financial control.
• Reviews accuracy, completeness of consolidated financial reports.
• Creates strategic partnerships and linkages with external parties on all financial matters (auditors, banks, accountant, tax advisers, regulatory bodies, industry associations).
• Evaluate and negotiate on long term and short-term financing facilities and makes recommendation to the CEO.
• Develop and monitor Corporate Financial policies, Systems and Processes across the Company.
• Develops and maintains policies relating to maintenance of systems of internal control to safeguard financial and physical assets of the organization.
• Monitor and evaluate the financial performance of Jubilee Life and gives appropriate recommendation(s).
• Assess the benefits of all prospective contracts and advise the CEO on programmatic design and implementation matters.
• Provide strategic direction on financial matters including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, statutory reporting, audit, and overall financial control.
• Present financial reports to Executive Management Team, Directors, and the Board of Directors.
• IFRS17 methodology position papers: On options & recommendations under non-prescribed technical decisions e.g., Level of aggregation, contract boundaries, risk adjustment, investment components, reinsurance contracts approach etc.
• Disclosure preparation under IFRS17 reporting requirements
• Develop controls and documentation around estimates and judgement in IFRS17 implementation for data & results consistency, completeness, and accuracy.
• Model Jubilee financial statements under IFRS17 basis and comparatives to IFRS4.
• Setting up of the general ledger for the reporting on IFRS17 and OFA software
• Training other members within the Company
• IFRS17 inputs to regulatory reports i.e., Quarterly returns to IRA and tax computations for URA
• Support stakeholders on all financial inputs and outputs (Actuarial, Finance, appointed actuary and audit/assurance teams) on IFRS17 reporting within monthly, quarterly & end year reporting timelines
• Work with the actuarial team on the profit-testing of the products under IFRS17 and give recommendations on optimal treatment of onerous contracts
• Risk assessment, management, and reporting under IFRS17 reporting 21) Preparing and maintaining monthly, quarterly, and annual returns to the Insurance Regulatory Authority
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in a Business-related field
• CPA, ACCA, CFA
• Member of a relevant professional Accounting /Finance body
• Master’s degree, Finance & Accounting or in a related field will be an added advantage
