Job Description


Communication Officer produces written and visual materials and content on the FRC projects in Uganda for the use of HQ and Country Office. She/he works closely with FRC Finland HQ communication unit.

Key tasks:
• Produce professional media and communications materials and content, such as articles and short stories, photographs, videos on FRC projects and on other relevant topics for the use of FRC platforms.
Write regular updates and news digests on current refugee situation and matters impacting the work in Uganda and region for HQ and donor use.
• Produce high quality photographs on FRC projects for publications, reports, fundraising materials, social media and multimedia content for FRC social media.
• Assist and liaise with HQ Information and Communication unit to develop communication strategy and workplans.
• Produce content for media campaigns and other events in Finland and in Uganda.
Encourage and train FRC staff in Uganda to produce news and feature contents. Other tasks:
• Keep database on written and visual materials produced at FRC online archive.
• Maintain up-to-date database of journalists and media organisations.
• Build dialogue and liaise with media contacts within region.
Respond to enquiries from the press or other media.
• Assist and prepare programs and presentations for donor, partner and other officials’ visits.
• Handle interview requests and programs for press and other media visits.
• Ensuring FRC visibility in projects and materials produced.

Qualifications and competencies:
• Degree in Communications / Journalism / Public Information / International Relations or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience working in media, journalism or communications.
Very good technical knowledge on media contexts, web and digital tools.
• Excellent newswriting and editing skills, social media and photography skills.
• Experience working in field situations in rural areas.
• Proficiency in English.
