Job Description


ORGANISATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
a) Division or Department: Corporate Affairs
b) Reports to: Manager, Corporate Affairs
c) Directly Supervises: None

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To implement information and communications management strategies that promote client and general public awareness of company services

KEY RESULT AREAS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
(i) Acquire, organize and distribute information in printed form and other media
(ii) Identify, select, order and manage information in a variety of media
(iii) Provide input to the design of the SWICO Communication and lobbying Strategy
(iv) Update SWICO activities on the website
(v) Liaise with the house media on appropriate publicity and sensitization of SWICO
(vi) continuously identify highlights of SWICO activities for flagging as breaking news
(vii) Draft press releases
(viii) Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisors.

PERSON SPECIFICATION: Public Relations and Communications Officer
• Minimum Academic and/or Professional Qualifications Necessary
• The candidate should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Mass Communication/marketing or business with specialization in communications or public relations
• A Master’s degree qualification in any of the above fields from a recognised institution
• Additional Training/Qualifications/Certification Necessary
• Any skills-based training in insurance, public relations or marketing
• Minimum Experience and Exposure Necessary
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience of working for an in-house media and public relations team in a large profile organisation

Key Knowledge Required
• Experience of working for an in-house media and Public relations team in a large profile organisation

Key Skills Necessary
(i) Critical thinking and high analytical skills
(ii) excellent interpersonal/networking skills
(iii) Strong communication skills
(iv) Demonstrable computer skills with the knowledge of website design
(v) Demonstrable literacy and copy-writing/publishing skills

Other Qualities/Attributes
(i) Ability to work with minimum supervision
(ii) High level of integrity
(iii) Knowledge of Public Relations and media relations
