Job Description


The Workplace Safety Officer is responsible for providing safety management, advice, monitoring, and reporting in the workplace, and engage staff in programs that ensure safe practice in the workplace and particularly at the Kiira Vehicle Plant.

Salary Scale: K6 (3)
Reports to: Senior Workplace Safety Officer
Direct Reports:
• Plant Operator IV
• Facilities Assistant III

Key Functions:
• Development of OHS Policies and Programs: Develop and manage company-wide safety programs, including training, job hazard analysis, and surveillance; Implement company-wide safety initiatives, including safety management systems, safety committee, safety meetings, and safety audits.
• Conduct Risk Assessment and Enforce Preventative Measures: Coordinate all safety-related activities, including training materials development and review, and conducting site inspections; Research, monitor, and assess workplace hazards, and coordinate and administer safety and health programs.
• Record and Investigate Incidents: Promote the use of all safety equipment, including personal protective equipment; Determine causes of incidents and handle worker’s compensation claims; and maintain and update accident investigation reports.
• Skilling and Capacity Development: Lead, mentor, develop, coach, train and appraise subordinates and peers to help them be successful in their roles and to progress in their skills and abilities.
• Reporting and Analysis: Develop and implement Monthly Work Plans necessary for executing the above duties and responsibilities and Performance Reports detailing all workplace safety aspects within the company.
• Any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor

Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree (Honors) in Health, Safety and Environment; Industrial Engineering and Management; Manufacturing; Mechanical Engineering or Related field from a Recognized Institution.
• Certification in Health, Safety and Environment or Equivalent

Minimum Experience
The applicant should have General Working Experience of at least Three (3) years. The applicant should have served as a Workplace Safety Officer or related field in a reputable organization for at least Two (2) year.

• Knowledge of legislation (e.g., OSHA) and relevant procedures

• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and ERP Systems
