Job Description


War Child works exclusively to improve the resilience and wellbeing of children living with violence and armed conflict. We empower children in everything we do. We work to unleash their inner strength through our creative and engaging approach. We deliver vital child protection, MHPSS and psychosocial support.

War Child recently secured funding for a 3-4 year grant that will consist of implementing an integrated multi-levelled mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) program that is comprised of multiple connected, evidence-based MHPSS interventions, aiming to contribute to the reduction of psychological distress levels and improved wellbeing of children in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The project will be implemented through local partners.

War Child intends to recruit a TeamUp/ReachNow Coach to support local partner BeThere facilitators in the planning and rolling out TeamUp/ReachNow interventions in project field locations. The TeamUp/ReachNow Coach will also monitor implementation of the intervention and coach -mentor facilitators based on required skills and identified gaps.

Position in organisation and essential functional relations
The TeamUp/ReachNow Coach reports to the IMS Pamoja Tunaweza Project on a day-to-day basis but receive support and guidance of technical nature from the PDA PSS. The coach will be based in one of the project locations.

The main function for this role is to support partner staff and facilitators in planning and implementation TeamUp/ReachNow sessions for caregivers and ensure timely mentorship and coaching offered for effective project implementation.

Specific Roles and Responsibilities
The primary role is to support in planning and rolling out TeamUp/ReachNow in identified field locations.

Coordinate TeamUp/ReachNow trainings.
• Support training of partner staff.
• Support in tracking the certification processes for facilitators and trainers.

Conduct quality visits to partner staff to ensure adherence to quality standards.
• All facilitators are trained in methodology.
• Monitor tool kits use by facilitators.
• Adherence to fidelity &competence checklists, and attendance.
• Develop mentorship and coaching plans.
• Coordinate mentorship of facilitators and trainers in locations.
• Conducting feedback meetings with community based facilitators/extension workers.
• Together with trainers conduct monthly checkup meetings for partners to share learnings.
• Monthly/Quarterly feedback sessions are conducted with session participants.
• Caregivers/children with additional MHPSS and other needs are being referred to the appropriate service providers.

Ensure WCH scaling plan is updated by:
• Tracking changes in rollout of TeamUp/ReachNow by partners.
• Tracking Innovations by partners.
• Tracking lessons learnt during implementation.
• Conduct awareness raising on the TeamUp/ReachNow methodology.

Support in documenting stories of change with support from partners.
Provide weekly updates, monthly and quarterly reports on the TeamUp/ReachNow implementation.

Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
• Degree in Community Development, Child Protection, Psychology, Social Sciences or equivalent demonstrable experience in relevant fields (social work, community development)
• Experience in training, supervision and coaching of teams
• Experience in implementing MHPSS projects (eg TeamUp)
• TeamUp ToT is an added advantage
• Excellent English writing ability and verbal skills for reports and communication
• Ability to problem solve and work with minimal supervision
• Ability to work well under pressure with diverse teams from all backgrounds and level

Skills and Competencies
• Strong social and communication skills for team management as well as for liaising with external stakeholders.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others
• Good Facilitation skills
• Fluency in English, preferably able to speak in one of the local languages
• Problem solving skills, able to deal independently with field work related issues
• Result oriented
• Strong computer and report writing skills
• Driving license for driving a motorbike
