Job Description
The Austrian Embassy, Development Cooperation office in Kampala, Uganda is seeking to recruit a driver on fixed term basis.
Position: Locally Employed Driver
Working hours: 40 hours/week
Tentative starting date: 1st January 2025
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Duties & Responsibilities
The driver will work under the overall supervision of the Head of Office and under the direct supervision of the Head of Administration: S/he will take care of the following tasks:
- Serve as a driver for program and project visits all over the country, as per assignment by the Head of Office.
- Drive staff members to official meetings and appointments.
- Transport visitors of the Coordination Office as required (airport and hotel pick up, transportation to official appointments, general assistance) in collaboration with the Head of Office and Head of Administration.
- Ensure safety and comfort of passengers through adhering to traffic laws and regulations governing Uganda.
- Deliver and collect mail, documents and other items to Government -Offices/Embassies/Commercial Establishments/UN Offices.
- Maintain daily vehicle logs, and records on daily mileage and repairs.
- Ensure proper vehicle registration.
- Ensure that the office vehicle is kept clean and is always in good working condition and report any findings in a timely manner to the Head of Administration.
- Keep a record of all items necessary for vehicle safety (change oil, check tires, lights horn, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, jack, and vehicle repair tools).
- Quality care and maintenance of vehicle as necessary (collection of proformas, organization of time schedule, control of maintenance and repair work).
Requirements
- Completion of Advanced level of education is required; (Diploma holder and or bachelor’s degree in administration or any relevant field is an added advantage).
- At least 5 years of experience as a driver in an international organization, embassy, UN system, or Government with a safe driving record.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license class B, with a minimum record of five years of accident-free driving
- Experience driving high profile dignitaries.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, team spirit, integrity and a pleasant personality.
- Fluent knowledge of spoken English (Knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda is an added advantage).
- Willingness to travel to remote parts of the country.
- Experience working in a multicultural environment and having first aid skills is an added advantage.
- Basic knowledge of working with computers.
- Time conscious, reliable and proactive.
