Job Description


Uganda Manufacturers Association wishes to recruit competent personnel in the following positions:

1. Business Development Manager
The job holder is responsible for the growth and retention of the organization’s membership as well as the development and implementation of marketing strategies that grow the Association’s income.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee membership growth and retention across all sectors of manufacturing in Uganda
  • Develop, implement, and monitor the Association’s marketing and growth plans
  • Manage engagement and communication functions and coordinate the Association’s events to achieve set objectives.
  • Responsible for the implementation of an image database to meet the needs of Communications, Relations, and Events Teams.
  • Continuously scan the environment for opportunities and threats that are impactful to the Manufacturing sector
  • Develop, implement, and monitor departmental plans and budgets.
  • Ensure effective execution of departmental income targets
  • Spearhead plan and execution of UMA member trade fairs
  • Carry out any other duties as signed by the management.

2. Business Relations Officer.
The candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive business relations strategy to enhance the Association’s growth.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a business relations strategy to promote the Association’s growth
  • Profile and calendar key events of UMA members and ensure cross-participation
  • Coordinate UMA members to participate in international and regional business missions
  • Maintain external relations with embassies, attaches, and other coordination offices deemed essential to facilitate business for manufacturers
  • Ensure effective communication of policy changes and other doing of business environment updates to UMA membership
  • Provide public relations support to the Business Development Department in promoting its activities and services
  • Coordinate and manage UMA partnerships, collaborations, and joint programming to ensure effective implementation of shared aspirations of UMA and its stakeholders
  • Plan and execute sponsorship strategies for UMA events at national and regional levels
  • Develop, communicate, and execute the UMA annual business events calendar to ensure effective alignment and participation of all sectors of UMA membership
  • Conduct member business satisfaction and feedback surveys to inform continuous adherence of UMA actions to member needs

3. Policy Analyst.
To review, analyse, update, and write important policies that address member concerns and UMA’s strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct extensive research on a range of trade, manufacturing, economic, legal and tax issues that inform the development of policy and UMA strategic priorities.
  • Draft relevant policy documents while ensuring clarity, coherence, specificity, and alignment with other organisational or government policies and regulations.
  • Monitor and analyse policy trends in both domestic and international environments that may impact trade and
    manufacturing in Uganda and the East African Region.
  • Identify emerging trends and make recommendations that inform policy decisions or adapt existing policies to suit changing circumstances.
  • With guidance from the policy manager, develop evidence-based research across a broad range of trade, manufacturing and economic areas, that align with strategic priorities.
  • Share information and knowledge regarding policies through a range of communication channels, including briefs, reports, and presentations at seminars, workshops, or conferences that encourage interaction and input.
  • Collect feedback on potential policy benefits, concerns, consequences and improvement areas from UMA membership through sector meetings, focus groups, surveys, or interviews etc.
  • Documenting research findings, policy, recommendations, and outlining strategies.
  • Maintain and update database management systems that contain policy information, research and statistics and use them to analyse, clean and interpret data to inform and reinforce evidence-based policies.
