| REPORTING TO: | Head of Commercial & Supply Chain |
| BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: | 1. Strategic Oversight · Develop and implement strategies to optimize clearing and forwarding operations in alignment with organizational goals.· Identify opportunities for business growth, operational improvements, and cost efficiencies. · Provide strategic input for decision-making on key logistics and supply chain initiatives. · Monitor industry trends and innovations to keep the organization competitive and compliant. 2. Operations Management · Oversee the end-to-end clearing and forwarding operations for both imports and exports. · Ensure strict compliance with customs regulations, tariffs, and international trade laws. · Coordinate with shipping lines, customs authorities, and other stakeholders to promptly resolve operational issues. · Monitor cargo tracking systems to ensure timely and accurate delivery to clients. 3. Documentation and Compliance · Ensure accurate preparation and submission of all customs documentation. · Monitor updates in customs laws, regulations, and industry practices to ensure compliance. · Maintain records for audits and compliance purposes. 4. Risk Management · Identify and mitigate risks related to logistics, customs clearance, and compliance. · Develop and implement contingency plans to handle operational disruptions. 5. Financial Oversight · Prepare and manage the department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective operations. · Analyse and report on operational expenses, identifying opportunities for cost reduction. · Monitor billing and ensure timely payment collection from clients. 6. Team Leadership · Lead, mentor, and manage a team of clearing and forwarding across Kampala, Entebbe, and Malaba. · Assign tasks, monitor performance, and provide training to enhance team efficiency and capability. · Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement within the team. |
| Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field. – Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in clearing and forwarding operations, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. – Strong knowledge of customs regulations and international trade practices. – Excellent leadership and team management skills. – Proficiency in logistics management systems and software. – Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills. – Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure. |
