About This Role
The Project Manager will provide overall leadership and management of an integrated project that focusses on interventions that promote child protection, early childhood development and learning, household food security and income, and peace building in Parolinya Refugee settlement. The Project Manager will ensure that the project deliverables are of the appropriate quality and are met within the project budget and timelines. The project will closely collaborate with other ChildFund projects in Palorinya refugee settlement to ensure seamless coordination and integration. The Project Manager will provide supervision and technical assistance to project staff and coordinate with humanitarian partners, civil society organizations, local government, and the national government.
Period of Assignment: 33 months(One-year renewable contracts)
Required Experience And Education
- At least a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Education, Agriculture or other closely related areas.
- A Postgraduate qualification in a closely related field or in Project management is an added advantage.
- At least 5 years’ project management experience in an international NGO and in leading medium-to-large early childhood development programs in either emergency or development contexts
- Experience managing high-quality donor funded project(s).
Primary Responsibilities
- Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to project staff to ensure professional growth.
- Lead the planning and implementation of the ECE project activities according to the approved proposal, ensuring quality deliverables and targets are met.
- Manage the project budget by ensuring timely resource utilization as per approved budget and adhering to both ChildFund International and donor standards.
- Ensure continuous monitoring of the implementation of project activities to ensure quality implementation.
- Ensure project data is captured, well documented, and contribute to monitoring, evaluation, and knowledge management and learning.
- Ensure timely submission of quality project progress reports, and other information as may be required.
- Lead project coordination with relevant stakeholders for successful implementation of the project including participation in key working groups at the subnational and national levels to foster partnerships.
- Undertake any other duties as shall be delegated by the supervisor.
Required Competencies
- Demonstrated skills in leadership and supervision of staff and in building and maintaining a high performing team.
- Experience in promoting children’s rights including participation in programming, design, implementation, and evaluation in either emergency or development settings.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with ability to network and negotiate with partners and government bodies.
- Strong facilitation and capacity building skills
- Willingness to immerse into the Palorinya refugee settlement and regularly travel across the project sites.
- Good analytical and organizational skills
- Strong knowledge of Government of Uganda ECD policy and implementation plan
- Demonstrable experience in delivering interventions in humanitarian settings
- Clear knowledge and understanding of Sphere standards and HAAP (Humanitarian Accountability to the Affected persons)
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural/ethnic communities
