Job Description


Manager HR Governance & Employee Relations is responsible for creating and delivering people practices which develop and maintain compliance in the working relationship between Equity Bank and its employees in line with the relevant employment laws and regulations

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitor and continually review all Human Resources Policies and Procedures and SLAs and to ensure relevance and compliance to governing Employments laws and legislations.
  • Provide information, advice and assistance to the Human Resources team and staff regarding application of statutes, regulations, contracts, and employee relations practices relating to their functional areas.
  • Provide guidance to supervisory personnel regarding fair and equitable treatment, compliance with contract, policies, practices, procedures and government laws and regulations.
  • Coach and train all staff on HR Policies and Procedures and employment laws updates.
  • Provide guidance and advisory services to management and employees on all employee relations and labor legislation relating to disciplinary handling and grievance matters and ensure their effective management.
  • Coordinate the investigation of staff cases relating disciplinary and grievance matters and see to their conclusion in line with the Human Resources Policy.
  • Follow up and effect all disciplinary process outcomes in a transparent and timely manner.
  • Administer the bank’s disciplinary and ethical code of conduct in line with the Human Resources Policy and guidelines.
  • Promptly handle employee grievances and harmonize industrial relations by counselling staff.
  • Represent the bank in external dispute resolution and act as a liaison between the bank and external parties acting against or on behalf of the bank.
  • Proactively mitigate compliance and operational risks for HR processes including a framework for identifying, implementing and monitoring controls
  • Scan the environment we operate in to identify compliance vulnerability and partner with Centres of Expertise to recommend, resolve and implement resolutions
  • Lead Compliance- related projects and initiatives to proactively formulate risk mitigation strategies
  • Design control systems (self-assessment tools) to deal with compliance violations
  • Regularly assess the efficiency of control systems and recommend effective improvements
  • Provide guidance to ensure compliance measures are aligned with the applicable statutory requirements as per local practices
  • Proactively manage all external stakeholder relationships and ensure the bank’s and Human Resources department’s interests are ably represented.
  • Participate in contract negotiation and administration for relevant service providers.
  • Periodically evaluate the performance of relevant service providers and recommend appropriate action in line with the agreed SLAs.
  • Work with line managers to address people concerns.
  • In collaboration with the resourcing team and hiring managers, support the timely acquisition and placement of quality staff in accordance with applicable policies and guidelines.
  • Provide high-quality HR support and advice to management and staff on staff related matters.
  • Oversee the smooth and effective running of the bank’s performance appraisal process in line with Equity Bank’s PM Policy
  • Provide leadership, coaching, talent management and performance management to the Employee Relations Team.
  • Oversee the seamless execution of day-to-day activities of subordinate staff, ensure increased staff productivity and timely and efficient service delivery to customers.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, or related field from a recognized University.
  • Post Graduate Qualification in HR Management will be of added advantage

SKILLS

  • Good Knowledge and deep understanding of Ugandan Employment Laws and Regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of general human resources policies & procedures and best practices.
  • Previous experience and exposure in development and review of policies and procedures.

EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 6 years’ progressive experience in Human Resource Management with 2 years at supervisory level in a competitive business environment
