Uzima seeks to grow to a comparable scale in Uganda and plans to deliver 1 chicken per Ugandan household per year by 2025. Uzima aims to be the leading smallholder focused poultry enterprise in Uganda and Rwanda.
Job Summary:
Uzima is seeking a highly motivated and entrepreneurial Area Sales Manager with a passion for improving the lives of smallholder farmers. The Area Sales Manager must ensure consistent sales growth by recruiting, training, and managing his or her portfolio of customers through providing exceptional customer service and support. The Area Sales Manager will report to the Managing Director in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Identifying leads and selling improved breed day-old chicks.
- Coordinating delivery of day-old chicks, feed, and vaccines to customer.
- Providing technical field and business support to customers.
- Technical support: train customers on poultry management (housing, feed, biosecurity, vaccination, etc.) related to brooding day-old chicks and ensuring a quality product.
- Business support: coordinate marketing and sales of 45-day chickens to smallholder farmers by identifying, training, and supervising Village Ambassador network.
- Engaging local stakeholders (government officials, village leaders) within one of Uganda’s 124 districts; championing Uzima Chicken with external parties.
- Tracking performance of customers and Village Ambassadors; developing sales plans to reach targets and grow sales.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must be a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or hold an equivalent BA/MA in livestock, agriculture, or agribusiness.
- Passion for serving smallholder farmers and customers in rural areas.
- Solution-oriented and entrepreneurial.
- Ability to work independently with limited follow-up.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Leadership potential – desire and capacity to grow into leadership roles.
- Keen interest in frequent travel to sub-counties, parishes and villages within district to drive sales growth.
- The candidate should have excellent written and verbal English as well as good at either, Luo, Acholi and Runyoro as an added advantage.
