JOB DETAILS:
Somero Uganda is a grass root non-government, not for profit organization that works to promote and protect the human rights of exploited children and young women through education, economic empowerment and health initiatives. We believe in a just world for all however this is usually suppressed by denial of education, Violence against children, child labour, negative cultural practices and discrimination.
In partnership with Terre des Hommes Netherlands, Somero Uganda will be implementing a new project of ending violence against children under the Joining forces umbrella in Busia and Bugiri district.
“Joining Forces” is a global collaboration between six of the world’s largest child rights organizations –Child Fund,
Plan International, Save the Children, SOS Children’s Villages, Terre des Hommes and World Vision. It aims to fight for child rights and end violence against children, by working together to share learning and experiences and maximize our impact. Somero Uganda is the implementing agency of Terre des Hommes
This new project is to address violence, abuse, exploitation and neglect of children. During the COVID-19 crisis and in recovery phase (3 years), the intervention aims to strengthen national and local protection and response systems; work specifically with families, communities and institutions to improve child protection capabilities, attitudes and behaviours; increase the capacity and agency of children themselves to prevent and respond to violence against them; and increase learning and generate best practice related to child protection approaches.

Duty Station: (1 -Busia office and 1-Bugiri office)
Qualifications and Experiences
● The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social work and community development or any related field.
● A critical understanding of and commitment to social justice and human rights issues facing children.
● Demonstrated interest in a career within the field of advocacy for child protection and commitment to the mission and vision of Somero Uganda.
● Three years of professional experience in NGO work preferably in system strengthening, lobbying and advocacy.
● Demonstrated project management experience with donor- funded projects
