Purpose of the Job: To carry out basic laboratory tests for diagnosis of diseases

Duties and responsibilities
• Prepare laboratory reagents and stains for routine investigations
• Carry out basic laboratory tests and submit reports to Laboratory Technician
• Observe safety and quality assurance practices in laboratories
• Clean the laboratory equipment regularly
• Requisition necessary supplies for laboratory work and keeping record of stock
• Participate in research activities
• Compile and submit daily periodic laboratory reports
• Safely dispose of laboratory wastes

Person specification
Qualification
• Must have a certificate in Medical Laboratory Techniques from a recognized Training Institution
• Must be registered and licensed with the Allied Professionals Council

• Analytical skills – must take an analytical approach to tasks in order to spot anomalies and trends in data
• Communication skills – work closely with colleagues to carry out tests and follow procedures
• Computer knowledge – handling computerized lab equipment and creating reports require basic computer knowledge and the ability to pick up new software and programs quickly
