The Uganda National Academy of Sciences (UNAS) is an independent, honorific, and service-oriented organization that provides evidence-informed advice to the government and nation on matters of science. technology. innovation, and development. Founded in October 2000, UNAS has been providing unparalleled service to government and society as a whole on such matters as tobacco prevention and control, aid effectiveness, county ownership of national development, malaria prevention and control. HIWAIDS prevention and control, biotechnology, education systems, urbanization, immunization, and many more. UNAS is part of the Network of African Science Academies (NASACL the Inter-Academy Partnership (LAP), and has bilateral agreements with other academies across the world. .
The Position
The Research and Administrative Assistant is expected to perform the following duties:
• support the mission and objectives of our distinguished Fellows of the Academy on a wide range of issues relevant to Uganda’s development.
• summarize multi-disciplinary research, write extensively, and support a wide range of consensus building and convening activities.
• work closely with a diverse team of professionals at the secretariat to conduct extensive secondary research and manage stakeholder relationships across an array of sectors.
• work closely with both the Research Officer and Administrative Officer in performing various tasks.
• be challenged to embrace culling-edge approaches to critical thinking and work in a dynamic organization that responds to key societal needs.
Minimum Qualifications and Professional Competencies
• A Bachelor’s degree in any field from a reputable university that is currently accredited by the relevant accreditation agency in its jurisdiction.
• At least three (3) years of post-qualification work experience in either research or administration in a lest- paced organization.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
• Excellent IT Skills {MS Office Suite, Internet, Zoom, Skype).
• Demonstrated English communication skills (written and oral) including donor stewardship, preparing program
• reports, and public speaking.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Proven ability to deliver quality outputs in a timely and efficient manner.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines.
• Openness to learning new ways of undertaking research.
• Attention to detail, especially in the areas of file management, record keeping, and bookkeeping.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Some experience in scientific writing.
