ROLE PURPOSE

The Partnership Manager will support the identification and nurturing of strategic partnerships and strengthening of civil society actors to enable Plan International Uganda to implement its Country Strategy and deliver on its ambition.

Dimensions of the Role

The job holder will develop, update and implement Plan International’s partnership framework, policies, guidelines and templates to ensure that partners work is aligned and in adherence with Plan Global Standards on Building Better Partnerships and implementing the project goals. He/she will manage contractual relationships and support in strategic partnerships with diverse actors while delivering high quality capacity building initiatives for partners and Plan staff ensuring that it is systematic and with long term impact.

This job will have a strong advisory and management dimension to the roll out and adherence to partnership framework, processes and guideline, supporting management and teams to work effectively with all partners and in particular strategic partners.

 

Accountabilities

  • Support development and maintenance of strategic partnerships that support Plan International Uganda to deliver its Country Strategy.
  • Develop / refresh strategies, guidelines and tools on effective partnership management and support teams to effectively work with these.
  • Lead the mutual appraisal/ due diligence process for identification and regular follow up of potential and existing partners.
  • Support the sub granting function and develop specific tools to guide sub-granting processes.
  • Develop, implement and support implementation of capacity building plans for partners which are an integral part of Plan’s relationship with its Partners and also contribute to strengthening of local civil society.
  • Advise management and teams in managing partner relationships according to Plan’s Management Global Standards on working with others.
  • Work closely with the Business Development and Grants department to given inputs to proposal and concept notes for grant funding opportunities in thematic programs and Civil Society Strengthening.
  • Advise the CLT on new trends, laws and legislation on civil society in Uganda and any potential risk or impact on existing partners of PIU
  • Collaborate with partners to deliver, monitor and evaluate projects.
  • Ensure proper visibility of Plan International Uganda in partnership relationships
  • Manage the national partnership database with regular updates
  • Organize regular partnership review meetings to ensure smooth running of partnerships.
  • Facilitate annual partner’s feedback survey and develop action plan based on the findings of survey results and share with management and partners.
  • Document learnings from partnerships and civil society strengthening work and disseminate with internally and externally.

Technical expertise, skills and knowledge

Education and Experience

  • A degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Communication or any other related field
  • Additional training at Post-Graduate level in Public Relations is an added advantage
  • At least 5 years’ experience working with a variety of partners in a development or humanitarian context.

    Knowledge & Skills

  • Excellent partnership management and team leadership skills
  • Experience in developing partnership strategies, manuals and tools for capacity building of partners
    1. interpersonal, analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Knowledge in implementation of rights based programming.
  • Familiarity with theory and practice of civil society strengthening.
  • Demonstrated skill and experience in report writing. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work cooperatively with partners
  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures, ability to lead and motivate people to work in teams.
  • Ability to develop synergies and integration of different project.
  • Demonstrated ability of working in different partnerships.
  • Proven computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft software including MS Word processing, Power point presentation, Excel spreadsheets, e-mail and web based research.

As a Child Centred Development organisation, Plan International Uganda strives to ensure that children are kept safe in all the areas we operate. The organisation further has a Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy that every staff is required to sign.

Additional Responsibilities:

Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy (SCYP) Responsibilities (mandatory for all staff)

  • Adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy, Code of Conduct and reporting any Safeguarding issues. 
  • Responsible for the implementation of the Safeguarding Children and Young People standards as they apply to area of responsibility plus the development of actions to address identified gaps and monitoring their effectiveness.
  • Ensure that all Plan International partners, visitors and associates in his/her area of responsibility are provided with, are made aware off and have signed and returned a copy of the Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy. Inform the partners, visitors and associates that they must comply with the policy in all contacts and communications with children during their visit.
