Project Summary- Strengthening Governance and Civil Society Programme – Training of CSO Staff Member
Since 03/2019 NIRAS is implementing the training component of the GIZ “Strengthening Governance and Civil Society Programme”. The projects objective is to increase selected state and civil society actors’ capacities to work towards adherences to human rights and governance principles (transparency, accountability, efficient and effective administration as well as political participation) in their respective field of work. The main activities for the NIRAS project component include, within others, the development of standardised training courses as well as the offering of these standardised training courses. Because of COVID-19, eLearning formats are implemented for the time being, but for the future also presence trainings are foreseen.
Job Summary
The expert trainer is responsible for leading Leadership trainings for participants working in civil society organizations (CSOs) throughout Uganda. Trainings will occur mainly in an e-learning format (but in the future also presence trainings are possible), following a set curriculum. .
Topics covered include:
• Leadership Styles, Principles and Self-discovery :
• Communication Styles and Tools :
• Team Building and Delegation :
• Leadership Compliance, Oversight and the legal framework in Uganda :
The expert trainer will share expertise and experience working in leadership with participants, answer their questions, moderate discussions, and lead activities through a digital learning platform (atingi.org). The expert trainer will also assist in the production of short instructional videos for the training, mostly consisting of answering questions about the topic in a dialogue format with a representative of the participants (CSO). The expert trainer will also work closely with a communications specialist, who will assist with ensuring good communication between the expert trainer and the participants throughout each training. :
Work as expert trainer will presumably be primarily from Home Office, with weekly meetings in the NIRAS Uganda office.

Key Competencies and Minimum Requirements :
• Expert in leadership in civil society organizations with 3-5 years practical experience
• Professional non-formal education facilitator or trainer with focus on experiential learning techniques with 3-5 years practical experience
• Advanced soft skills in coaching, mentorship, giving feedback, and moderation in a seminar setting
• Experience in e-Learning as well as presence training settings
• Willing to work collaboratively in a team
• Able to self-motivate and willing to learn
• Able to self-organise
• Reliable and have good time management skills
• Comfortable with being recorded for short instructional podcasts or videos
• Good writing skills in the English language
• Fluency in local language(s) and English required
• Competent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
• Familiarity with Microsoft Teams and Sharepoint a plus
