Job Description
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
1. To improve strategic communication and knowledge management for WCO Uganda2. To portray a favourable image of WHO and its activities to the Ugandan public through the mass media and other communication channels
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
–> Drafting other substantive written material for the Office of the WHO Representative as requested, including statements, briefings, opposite the editorial page (op-eds), opinions, articles, talking points, key messages and other written communications. This may include targeted messages for internal communications within the United Nations Systems or for specific stakeholders and partners;–> Support designing state-of-the-art communication materials and tools; support WHO web site, social media, intranet, web-based knowledge management system and ensure the rapid and timely dissemination of information to all partners; –> Support development of advocacy documents to inform humanitarian and development stakeholders and the general public about WHO’s response, support development of high quality media tools, including audio-visual, photographic and printed materials, television and radio programmes, multimedia presentations, social media, videos and press releases, etc., to promote WHO’s visibility, achievements and success stories. –> Prepare communication, advocacy products and statements to be used for resource mobilization efforts in convincing and encouraging donors to fund health sector response to affected populations. –> Supports the formulation and implementation of internal and external communications and advocacy strategies, supports business development.–> Extracting key messages from speeches/presentations/articles for dissemination through social media channels, in close collaboration with the Programme Management Officer.–> Undertaking original research on a range of development topics (within the context of UN system, Country Cooperation Strategy and Sustainable Development Goals) as needed to substantively inform the speechwriting process.–> Organization of roundtable discussions, press conferences, briefing sessions, seminars, interviews, observation of Health Days.–> Ensures facilitation of knowledge building and management.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Essential: Completion of secondary education; preferably supplemented by technical or university courses in communications, journalism, international relations.
Desirable: First level degree in communications, journalism, social sciences
Experience
Essential: At least10 years’ experience in communication, journalism, media (print, broadcast and electronic or public
Desirable: Experience in design of website and social media, maintaining and updating current information.
Skills
In depth knowledge of communications approaches, tools, and methodologiesAbility to deliver oral presentations to various audiences3. Ability to keep abreast of available technology willingness to learn new technology

REMUNERATION
WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at UGX 82,537,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
