Job Description

Minimum Qualification
• Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; or Information Technology; or Business Administration; or Master Mariner and Chief Engineer Certificate from a recognized University/Institution.

Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the Senior Marine Surveyor for performing the following duties:-
• Assisting in the inspections and approvals for Life Saving Appliances (LSA) and Fire Fighting Appliances (FFA) in Ports, Ports facilities, Offshore facilities, Landing sites and on-board vessels;
• Participating in vessel inspections and conducting surveys throughout the ship’s life (building new ships, annual surveys, interim survey, special survey) to ensure standards are maintained;
• Participating in reviewing for approval of Mechanical and Electrical surveys on-board vessels;
• Participating in reviewing of vessel designs for approval prior to submission to classification society or vice versa;
• Participating in formulation and enforcement of quality of service providers and equipment supplied for both the Government and private vessels;
• Measuring ships for tonnage and surveying them for lad line assignment;
• Assisting in formulation of ship building standards and dealing with recognized organizations and ensuring compliance with National and International Regulations;
• Assisting in matters relating to port safety and representing Uganda at both National and International maritime fora;
• Participating in management of wrecks and coordination of wreck removals;
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
