Reports to: Senior Human Resource Officer

Back ground:
The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a not for profit, networking alliance and service organization that brings together field epidemiology training programs (FETPs) across Africa working side by side with Ministries of Health, regional and international partners. AFENET works to strengthen epidemiology and disease surveillance capabilities of African countries that are critical to meeting the requirements of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) strategy and the International Health Regulations (IHR).
Established in 2005, AFENET has supported more than 30 African countries across sub-Saharan Africa advance their capabilities in early detection and response to infectious and non-infectious diseases. AFENET is looking to hire capable and qualified person into the position of a Human Resource Officer to support the Human Resource function at the Secretariat and also the AFENET network. AFENET is looking to hire a capable and qualified person into the position of HUMAN RESOURCE OFFICER.
Job purpose:
This position provides assistance in management and guidance on Human resource function in the Organization.

Responsibilities:
• Assist in Coordination of the recruitment, selection and contracting of new staff both at the Secretariat and the Network; Provide assistance in management of HR information and records through the HRIS software. Provide assistance in coordination of the performance management system for the human resources both at Secretariat and the Network; Assist in the training and development function of the organization based on the identified performance gaps, business requirements and career development;
• Participate in Human resource planning and forecasts to staffing requirements for Secretariat and AFENET Network Programs;
• Offer assistance in managing employee grievance, complaint and disciplinary cases in accordance with human resource guidelines and regulations;
• Handle employee separation processes for both voluntary and involuntary exits
• Conduct regular surveys to ascertain the level of employee satisfaction and ensure identified
• Conduct regular surveys to ascertain the level of employee satisfaction and ensure identified gaps are managed to increase the level of satisfaction
• Support in monitoring of the confidential employee contract information and records for timely renewals and action.

Academic requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Industrial Psychology, Social Sciences, Business
• Administration or equivalent
• Post Graduate training in Human Resources and or Management with proven experience in Human Resource Management and Administration and People management
• At least 3 years’ relevant experience in similar duties preferably in a NGO environment is preferred.
• Membership to Professional organizations and certification is added advantage.
• Excellence in relevant Ms. Office computer applications and or any HRIS is added advantage.

Required functional competences:
The preferred candidate must prove possession the following:
• Excellent knowledge of human resources management skills
• Good knowledge of training skills
• Good knowledge of employment legislation
