Job Description
Little Light was established in July 2007, as a self-help community center at Namuwongo Zone B, one of the largest and poorest slums in Kampala, Uganda. The program is operated by a local voluntary non-profit organization, ‘Little Light UG’, an organization that grew organically from the local community.
Job Summary: Execute and lead Little Light’s work on the ground in Uganda, across all the relevant fields and tasks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manage community-relations including spearheading the recruitment process of students into the Little Light sponsorship program (carry out house visits in Namuwongo Slum).
• Train international volunteers on the ground as needed.
• Supervise the work of international volunteers- enforcing regulations and the code of conduct, help overcome professional challenges, ensure progress across all projects etc.
• Be the contact person on the ground for every international volunteer needs (e.g. coordinating with their residential landlord, helping in time of trouble and difficulty, escorting them to local service providers etc.).
• Support management and board in recruitment services whenever needed (for both junior and senior positions) by providing services like assistance in recruitment and- orienting new staff members into the little light work system as needed.
• Initiate and sustain useful partnerships between little light and other institutions and individuals that support little light’s cause by being the contact person for all the NGO’s beneficiaries, institutions and local service providers (e.g. corporate institutions donating to Little Light, schools we work with etc).
• Manage the everyday tasks required to operate the NGO- obtain certificates, pay bills, coordinate with Local Council and other leaderships etc.
• This role is very dynamic, and may include additional responsibilities as the NGO develops.
• This role requires constant availability through phone calls and WhatsApp messages, at times at unusual hours.
• Report to the management and Board of Directors (located in Uganda and Israel) and professional managers (located in Israel)- Fieldwork Manager and Sponsorship Team Leader.
• Support in financial management by assisting with preparation of the budgets, financial reports and audits.
• Take part in document development and issuance (e.g. reports, employment agreements, staff welfare records, project documentation etc.).
• Coordinate women and youth programs.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The ideal applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
• Experience working in an international and multicultural team.
• Experience working for an NGO- advantage.
• Familiarity with Namuwongo Slum- advantage.
• Extremely strong independent work abilities.

• Passion for fieldwork. Experience in fieldwork- advantage
• Excellent communication skills

• Excellent English, both spoken and written
• Fluent in Luganda
• Fluent in other widely spoken local languages- advantage
• Knowledge of child development and early education practices- advantage
• Relevant legislation, policies and procedures in Uganda’s education and NGO systems- advantage
