Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Timely respond to transport requests and transport sick or injured individuals to medical facilities for treatment while avoid sudden motions detrimental to patients in line with the Drivers agreement management policy and Uganda Road Safety Act.
• Place patients on stretcher and load stretcher into ambulance and as well change soiled linen on stretcher in line with MoH related guidelines for ambulance.
• Administer first aid as needed and report facts concerning accident or emergency to hospital authority in line with MoH related guidelines for first aid patient management & care.
• Ensure daily maintenance of vehicles and of any accessories supplied with the vehicle.
• Ensure full onboard documentation.
• Know how to use onboard equipment such as 4×4, radios or winches.
• Ensure all passengers have necessary papers in order before traveling.
• Keep vehicle clean and free of debris.
• Routinely inventory vehicle emergency and first aid supplies and report needs to the nurse and supervisor.
• Record all movements in the vehicle logbook and submit weekly inspection reports.
• Operate vehicle in a manner maximizing the safety of passengers and of other road users.
• Perform preventative maintenance on the Vehicle.
• Be able to fix minor breakdown without professional help.
• Maintain vehicle tools and equipment.
• Responsible for safe parking and in legal areas.
• Report all accident occurrence in time within 3 hours.
• Notify the company of any traffic offense immediately while operating the company vehicle.
• Perform any other task as per management request
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
• A minimum of a certificate in a relevant discipline/ valid driving permit.
• A minimum of 5+ years’ driving experience, 3 years must be in driving an ambulance in a busy environment.
• Ordinary – level Certificate of education or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle mechanics and maintenance;
• Excellent defensive driving skills.
• Skilled in administering First Aid and CPR.
• Skilled in identifying maintenance issues.
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations to prioritize patient care.
• Physically fit and able to load vehicles.
• Ability to keep detailed records and write reports.
• Ability to follow procedures in response to accidents or emergency situations.
