About Organisation:

The National Building Review Board is a government agency under the Ministry of Works and Transport established by the Building Control Act, 2013. The Board is mandated to monitor building developments; ensure that the design and construction of buildings and utilities to which the public is to have access cater for persons with disabilities; oversee, inspect and monitor the operations of Building Committees; hear and determine appeals from persons dissatisfied with the decisions of a Building Committee; and to determine the fees to be charged by urban and district building committees for approval of plans, issue of building permits and occupation permits.

Job Summary:

To guarantee safe, efficient and sustainable building operations that comply with regulatory and ethical standards

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Working with the Senior Building Officer – Regional Office to develop and implement a robust monitoring and investigation system for all buildings
• Assisting the Senior Building Officer- Regional Office in developing inspection checklists that would be used by Building Control Officers for on-going construction sites
• Participating in the inspection and assessment of the works of the Building Committees to ensure compliance with the Building Control Act, Building Regulations and the Code
• Participating in investigations of building accidents related with reports prepared
• Providing clients with clear and consistent technical advice to strengthen building control initiatives
• Providing technical expertise and to convey information and manage community expectations about responsible building practices
• Carrying out competence and capacity building of Building Control Officers
• Generating periodic reports
• Performing any other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or other mandated authority.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree (Hons) in either: Architecture; Civil/Structural Engineering; Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or Quantity Surveying from a recognized university or institution
• Must be registered with the ERB and in possession of a valid practicing license
• At least Four (04) years of relevant working experience two (02) of which should be in Government or another reputable organization.
