Job Description
John Snow, Inc. (JSI), a leader in the field of international public health, is currently recruiting for Various positions for the USAID- Regional Health Integration to Enhance Services-North, Lango (USAID- RHITES-N, Lango) Project. USAID-RHITES-N, Lango will improve the use of integrated health services in Northern Uganda’s Lango region and strengthen the health system to sustain gains made by earlier projects. USAID-RHITES-N, Lango will contribute to improving key population-based national health indicators; build the capacity of the Ugandan government to carry out a sustainable and locally-driven response to the HIV epidemic, while also improving TB, malaria, nutrition, MNCH+A, and WASH outcomes. JSI will work with Ugandan stakeholders to design and implement health system strengthening strategies to scale up high-impact, evidence-based interventions at the national, sub-regional, district, and community levels. Interventions will include VMMC, virtual elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, antiretroviral therapy, and condom education and distribution. JSI will focus where the greatest impact can be realized, with a priority on hard-to-reach and high-HIV-prevalence locations.
RHITES-N, Lango is a five-year contract which started in February 2018 and will end in February 2023. The JSI team includes Amref Health Africa, Doctors with Africa CUAMM, Another Option, and Medical Concierge Group.
Job Title: Clinical Mentor

Main Roles and Responsibilities
• Participate in day-to-day clinical care for PLHIV including children, adolescents and pregnant women. This will include comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosing, treating and managing clients.
• Support counsellors to integrate Psychosocial support services into HIV/ TB service delivery.
• Participate in planning and implementation of community HIV services such as CDDPs, home and school based care.
• Coordinate and link clients to other services, particularly OVC and GBV
• Support health workers to improve the quality of care provided and work with facility leadership to ensure facilities are equipped to provide quality services through planning and leading CPDs, data reviews
• Support the facilities to develop and maintain functional quality improvement activities to address key facility gaps aimed at improving service delivery and clinical outcomes, including QI projects, CQI team meetings and activities.
• In liaison with the District Project Coordinator, support facilities to conduct weekly clinic ,1 facility meetings and use data to guide interventions and project technical support.
• Support facilities to provide information to clients aimed at reducing vulnerability to AIDS and other HIV related diseases through health education.
• Participate in training of other health workers through regular CPDs, mentorships and in-service trainings, and case presentations and other educational activities at the clinic, which develop and maintain competence and performance
• Participate in ensuring use of materials related to patient care and treatment, including clinical guidelines, protocols, algorithms, drug formularies, training materials, and monitoring and evaluation tools improve adherence support systems.
• Participate in ensuring adequate facility ARV stocks, support accurate and timely quantification of ARVs and other logistics.
• Participate in improving referral systems and community linkages with oversight and through collaboration with the Project community Linkages and Referrals Officer.
• Provide mentorship to health care workers in the delivery of quality health care to patients.
• Participate in district and program meetings, and any other meetings on request.
• Conduct periodic site assessments Using standard MOH and or PEPFAR tools, and support the facility and [project to address any gaps identified and provide feedback to the DPC on key facility gaps, challenges and achievements for targeted program interventions.
Qualification, Skills and Experience
• A Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine or a Bachelor’s degree of Science degree in Nursing or a Diploma in Clinical Medicine or Nursing from any recognized institution. Any added qualifications will be an added advantage.
• At least two years’ work experience gained through serving within a health facility in the last 4 years
• Previous experience in an HIWAIDS, TB and RMNCH related fields will be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of facility data management systems including DHISZ, primary reporting tools and Uganda EMR will be an added advantage
• Possession of a valid registration certificate from the supervisory Government Institution (Uganda Medical 81 Dental practitioners Council Possession, Allied Health Professional Council
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills is a must.
• Ability and willingness to reside in and work within the supported district.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power-point)
