Job Description
The objective of the program is to increase the country’s capacity to use health promotion strategies to tackle the determinants of health and help communities take control and improve their health through integrated actions.
Description
Of Duties
- Assist in the production and dissemination of health information and materials to ensure the visibility of WHO2. Drafting other substantive written material for the Office of the WHO Representative as requested, including statements, briefings, opposite the editorial page (op-eds), opinions, articles, talking points, key messages and other written communications. This may include targeted messages for internal communications within the United Nations Systems or for specific stakeholders and partnersSupport identify topics / stories of interest to develop and improve media / communication activities related to WHO country-level efforts as well as to design communication materials and tools and support rapid dissemination of information to all partnersIdentify and analyze in local and international press the Organization’s information needs, current and emerging critical issues, major events as well as public opinions on Health issuesWork with national and international media networks, facilitating the dissemination of information on health-related themesSupport in the development and maintenance of the country’s website content, in accordance with guidelines and standards in force throughout the Organization, to ensure consistency of approach. Critically review and improve content, architecture and design; Critically review and improve content7. Support designing state-of-the-art communication materials and tools; support WHO web site, social media, intranet, web-based knowledge management system and ensure the rapid and timely dissemination of information to all partnersCollaborate with other United Nations agencies and agencies to support and promote the development and implementation of joint communications activities Represent the Country Office (WCO) in the United Nations Communication Group and provide appropriate technical support as requiredPerform any other task related to communication, as requested by supervisors.
Required Qualifications
Education
Essential
Work requires completion of secondary school. Training in information science
Desirable
Training on new technologies and information management tools would be an asset.
Experience
Essential
At least 8 years of experience in experience in journalism and health information management.
Desirable
Experience within the United Nations System would be desirable
Skills
Technical competence in health information management on various audiovisual media Modern healthinformation; Good knowledge of Information Science and Technology;Ability to work with the various public and private structures which produce, disseminate and manage information including documentation services.

REMUNERATION
WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at UGX 65,202,000 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
