Job Description


Kawempe Home Care (KHC) is a community based, Non-Government Organization started in 2007 to provide comprehensive care to persons living with HIV/ AIDS, TB and cancer in Kampala and Wakiso districts.
The organization provides HIV/TB services through an outpatient, outreach clinic and a home- based care service for patients with advanced HIV disease. Palliative care services are also provided to patients with cancer through the outpatient clinics and the home-based care and through the New Hope Children’s hostel for poor and vulnerable children with cancer. The organization uses a community-based model of holistic care that addresses the physical, psychological, spiritual and social needs of each patient.
KHC is therefore looking for a qualified person to join her team for the following position:

Position: Counselor

Terms of employment: Full Time
Reports: counselling Coordinator

The main purpose of the job:
To provide professional counseling, guidance & HIV testing services to enhance positive behavior change among clients and ensure to implement UNAIDS/ PEPFAR’s strategy of 95, 95, 95. To support sustainable HIV/AIDS epidemic control in our catchment area.

Key roles and responsibilities
• Provide HIV Testing & counseling services to client.
• Create awareness about TB control, HIV/AIDS and stop further spread in the community.
• Ensure self-testing services are provided to achieve set targets.
• Counsel and attach positive clients to VICTASS proper adherence follow up.
• Provide IAC sessions to unsuppressed clients.
• Facilitate behavior change & life skill workshop for children, adolescents & most at risk populations.
• Provide Positive living education to clients.
• Participate in community sensitization & HIV testing targeting MARPs.
• Provide spiritual care & counseling to clients.
• Provide EMTCT Counseling services to the clients.
• Provide counseling to discordant and concordant couples.
• Ensure clients form posttest clubs for care, support and AIDS awareness.
• Provide child counseling to children cared for by the Kawempe home Care.

Desired education and training requirements:
• Degree in Guidance &Counseling, or Psychology from a recognized university
• Certificate in HIV/AIDS counseling and testing.
• Knowledge and experience in palliative care will an added advantage.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written

Other skills required:
• Excellent communication and ability to communicate in English, Luganda, Swahili
• Ability to provide compassionate care
• Attention to details
• Self-motivated and willing to learn
• Ability to keep Confidentiality
• Computer literate.
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good team player
