Job Description
NUHI is a Community Base Organization is a not-for-profit development organization currently undertakes donor funded programming within 5 districts in Northern Uganda.
As from January 2019, NUHI in partnership with the district local governments of: Kabong, Abim,
Moroto, Nakapiripirit and kotido have been implementing the Austrian Development Agency funded Improving Water Supply Sustainability (IWAS II) in Northern Uganda. The project focuses on strengthening and operationalizing the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) systems for sustainability hinged on the Sub-County Water Supply Sustainability board (SWSSB) structure. No new facilities are constructed, but focus is on strengthening the existing structures for O&M in 850-point water sources benefiting 212,500 people in 20 sub counties. The Project is in its final year of implementation with strong indications for an extension.

Job Title: Enrolled Comprehensive Nurse (12 positions)

Job Overview/Summary:
Under the guidance of Health Manager, the ECN shall be responsible for provision of basic medical screening, emergency medication, vaccinations, maternal and neonatal health services at the reception centre, isolation room, health posts, and supporting the delivery of community health services in the community within the catchment population. The range of services to be provided include general medical screening, vaccinations, antenatal care, deliveries, neonatal health care to prevent infection and promote health (infection prevention, exclusive breastfeeding, childhood immunization, growth monitoring and check-up for common neonatal infections), postpartum care, and encouragement of breastfeeding/young child weaning & feeding, family planning, and managing obstetric emergencies including referrals as appropriate, & STIs management according to MOH guidelines. Among others, s/he will be providing counseling on FP and provision of modern methods, provision of HIV/AIDS counseling and testing services including provision of HAART and EID. S/he will directly supervise the Community Health Extension workers (CHEWs) and Vaccinators.

Key Activities
• Provision of medical screening, emergency medications, vaccinations, maternal and neonatal health services at the reception centre, health posts and health facilities that include: general medical examination, emergency medications, vaccination, antenatal care, deliveries, neonatal health care to prevent infection and promote health, exclusive breastfeeding, immunization, growth monitoring and check-up for common neonatal infections, postpartum care, and encouragement of breastfeeding/young child weaning & feeding
• Implement family planning counseling and provision of modern methods;
• Management of obstetric emergencies including referrals as appropriate & STIs management according to MOH guidelines.
• Provides supportive supervision of Maternal and Child Health Workers (MCHW) to ensure that they carry out their duties as required
• Participate in the on-job training of other staff especially MCHW and also in organizing for sensitization in the health facility
• Provides health education to patients coming to the health facility and also plans community based campaigns
• Participates in EPI activities including vaccinations, request of vaccines as well as making of reports
• Participates in conducting of community based health care activities including planned outreaches and school health programs
Person Specifications
• Must be an ECN or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
• Must be registered with Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council.
