Job Description
The Ministry of Health (MOH) with support from the United States Agency for International Development Government (USAID) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to implement activities in line with its mandate in support of the public health response to HIVIAIDS and other health challenges.
This pool of human resources are expected to compliment service delivery at selected regional referral hospitals and will be contracted by MOH on one (1) year renewable contracts subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance of the staff.
Job Title: EPIDEMIOLOGIST (7 POSITIONS)
Workstation: Regional Referral Hospital (Gulu, Jinja, Kabale, Lira, Mbale, Mbarara and Moroto)
Reports to: RRH Director
Job Purpose:
To support implementation of policies and plans on epidemic and disaster preparedness and control by carrying out investigative and analytical epidemiologic activities related to the surveillance, detection, and prevention of diseases and injuries.
Key Functions:
• Participates in epidemiologic studies and urgent outbreak investigations.
• Performs statistical analyses of investigations.
• Participates in the design, management, and use of surveillance systems.
• Overseeing data collection, entry, analysis and interpretation of epidemic prone diseases.
• Participates in the design of instruments for the collection of surveillance information and data.
• Training district health workers on epidemic preparedness, control and surveillance
• Implements new or revises existing surveillance systems.
• Participates in the development and dissemination of data and epidemiologic findings.
• Preparing periodic monitoring and performance reports.
Qualifications:
• MBChB or BVM or a Degree in statistics or any other related field from a recognized University/Institution.
• Master’s degree in Public Health with a bias in epidemiology or any other related field is required.
• Three (3) years relevant working experience in epidemiology in a health facility at district or national level or multinational Organization.
Competencies:
• Ability to perform Epidemiologic Assessment and Analysis.
• Ability to analyze, summarize and interpret complex epidemiological data.
• Ability to develop and support leadership and Systems Thinking.
• Use Effective Communication Strategies.
• Planning and organization skills.
• Strong IT skills.
