Job Description
Role Purpose & Context
To provide overall strategic and operational leadership to Baylor-Uganda. Under the guidance of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director defines Baylor-Uganda’s strategic vision and is responsible for its implementation, and the results achieved.
Key Result areas
Strategic leadership and representation
• Develop organisational strategic plans and fulfil Baylor-Uganda’s vision and mission.
• Support Board Secretariat to ensure concise governance planning, communication and coordination.
• Communicate effectively and participate actively with the Board and Board Committees in the provision of key strategic and other operational information to ensure Board efficacy.
• Work with Board Chair in continually evolving and strengthening overall organization governance.
• Operationalise, lead and monitor implementation of Baylor-Uganda’s strategies.
• Enhance excellence, establishing operational benchmarks, KPIs, and targets.
• Ensure business continuity and an integrated risk management process.
• Represent Baylor-Uganda before any competent authority, partners, and donors.
Program delivery and impact
• Ensure adequate resources are acquired and prudently managed to enable quality program implementation.
• Enforce the highest standards of quality, impact and accountability in program implementation through compliance with applicable policies, standards and donor requirements.
• Provide oversight for project proposals, reports, audits and evaluations to meet impact and accountability requirements.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders to ensure quality and sustainable program delivery.
People, Finance and Operations
• Ensure a sound organisational structure, effective and efficient operational policies and business processes to fulfil the strategy of the organization.
• Coordinate the preparation, monitoring, control and submission for approval by the Board of organisation annual work plans, reports and budgets.
• Initiate, review and recommend organisation policy changes to the Board for approval in line with Baylor Uganda mission.
• Initiate, participate in recruitment, monitor and appraise the senior management team’s performance and take corrective action in line with the organisation’s objectives.
• Build and maintain a positive work environment that facilitates collaboration and excellence; and is conducive to attracting, retaining and motivating diverse and high calibre talent necessary to meet Baylor Uganda’s strategic objectives.
• Oversee the management and implementation of all organizational contracts according to Baylor-Uganda procurement systems and practices that deliver value for money.
• Build a strong brand and ensure that Baylor operations and staff conduct cause no damage to the Baylor-Uganda brand.
Knowledge, skills and experience required
• Master’s degree level qualification in Medicine and Surgery and Public Health. An MBA or PHD in any other relevant field is an added advantage.
• 10 years’ experience at Senior Management level in similar non-government organizations.
• Experience in leading multi-regional comprehensive HIV/TB, Maternal New born, Child and Adolescent Health and Global Health Security programs.
• Experience in management of large USG multi-site projects.
• Proven track record in resource mobilization across multiple type of donors.
• Experience in working with Boards, developing strategic plans, donor engagement, risk management and organizational development including leading organizational change.
• Experience in working in a multi-national global environment, including but limited to corporate, non-profit and academic landscapes.
