Job Title: Facilities Maintenance In-Charge
Reports Directly to: Operations Manager
Staff Reporting to Position: Gardeners/Carpenter/Plumber
Collaborations: Biomed Engineer/Electrician
Department: Maintenance

Job Purpose
The goal is to ensure that facilities are in a good and safe condition at all times. The Facilities Maintenance in-charge coordinates the day-to-day maintenance and repair of buildings, water systems, grounds, furniture, related non-medical equipment, and waste management at the hospital premises.
Key Result Areas Activities
Supervisory Role
• Supervises the facilities maintenance co-workers by; assigning and assessing work, ensuring they have PPE, tools and supplies they need to work. Ensure that co-workers are on duty and perform their duties, performing annual performance appraisals/evaluations with them, etc.
• Works directly with the collaborating links to ensure smooth running of the department and implementation of related activities.
• Develops and implements maintenance schedules for facilities and related non-medical equipment that are not under service agreement.
• Manage an inventory of all the supplies, tools and equipment assigned to the maintenance department
• Works with Finance and Procurement Office to purchase maintenance supplies, equipment and tools of trade for the department and provides complete accountability according to set procedures.
• Participate in supervisors’ meetings and hold departmental meetings as a channel for information sharing and solving problems that require such fora.
• Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor
Facilities Technician
• Performs maintenance and construction functions including but not limited to buildings, water systems, grounds, furniture, associated equipment, and waste management.
• Maintains an up to date inventory on Spreadsheets and CMS for facilities and non-medical equipment, their status and maintenance schedules.
• Conducts or oversees the repair of related tools and equipment with the assistance of other qualified personnel or contracted vendors (where applicable).
• Maintains an up to date file of copies of equipment manuals and schematic diagrams supplied by manufacturers electronically and in physical form.
• Uses proper safety equipment at all times when executing tasks
• Effectively communicates with co-workers regarding equipment, facilities and their proper use
• Manages work requests, i.e. receiving, prioritizing, and facilitating their completion. Always keeps a list of all work orders/requests and their completion status.
• Effectively communicates with all department supervisors regarding expected completion time for all work orders received.
Performs on-call functions
• Performs any other related duties as may be assigned by supervisor
Spiritual Ministry
• Participates in the hospital’s Spiritual Ministry programs.
Occupational Health & Safety observed.
• Ensure that all maintenance staff take reasonable care that their actions do not adversely affect the health and safety of others, that they comply with any reasonable instruction that is given them and with any reasonable policies/procedures relating to health or safety in the workplace, as well as notifying any hazards/risks or incidents to their managers.
• Participating in activities directed at preventing harm & promoting well-being in the workplace Identifying, reporting & self-managing hazards where appropriate.
Job Requirements
• A completed diploma in civil engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
• Knowledge and expertise in various crafts such as water systems and plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry are preferred.
• Ability to establish priorities and proceed with objectives with minimum supervision
• 3 years of work experience and (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity
• Must be able to effectively communicate ideas (verbally and in writing), be a self-starter and handle difficult reporting situations
• Ability to work in and contribute to a team building environment
• Exhibit the highest qualities of honesty and integrity in the handling of hospital resources ownership
• Ability to use electrical tools including computers
