Job Description
Reporting to the Country Director, the Finance Manager will provide overall financial and accounting Leadership to the Schools and & Management to ensure that UFFU delivers its strategic objectives. His/her responsibilities include monitoring project finances, preparing weekly cash requests, reviewing and posting transactions into the financial system, preparing project budgets, managing financial reporting to clients, ensuring adherence to funder rules and regulations, coordinating with the School For Life Australia on financial information required on the project, acting as a resource for UFFU staff on finance-related issues. Provides leadership and technical guidance for compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Procedures (GAAP).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Provision of timely financial management information and reports to Country Director within and School for Life Australia.
• Ensuring UFFU is in compliance with all documented control procedures, local taxes and other regulatory payments and relevant accounting standards.
• Prepare Monthly and Annual management accounts for UFFU management, Board and SFL Australia.
• Prepare such other financial reports as may be requested from time to time either by the Country Director, Management or by SFL Australia.
• Coordinate monthly requests for funds, based on budget and cash flow projections, to ensure the project has all necessary funds for operations.
• Develop procedures for monitoring and analyzing project budgets, which allow accurate projection of expenditures and comparisons of actual and budgeted spending.
• Advise project staff on financial health through the provision of regular and timely financial expenditure reports and budget re-forecasts.
• Ensuring internal control mechanisms and budget management are observed for purposes of minimizing financial risk.
• Overall responsibility for annual budget process, ongoing monitoring of expenditure against budget including reporting of variance analyses; advising on the multi-annual indicative budgeting as part of the strategy process.
• Oversee payroll procedures, administer payroll, and monitor employee time keeping.
• As a member of the UFFU’s Senior Management Team, he/she will input into UFFU decision making processes, including ensuring the effective and efficient management of resources;
• Providing technical financial support to aid head teachers and bursars, including budgeting, financial reporting, organisational capacity assessment of partners, close out processes and periodic operational and risk assessments of partners and Embassy processes;
• Ensure compliance to the legal and reporting procedures for donors and government institutions like U.R.A, NSSF, FIA, NGO Bureau etc.
Education and Experience
• Bachelors’ degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Level II of professional course (e.g. ACCA, CPA).
• A minimum of 5 years’ progressive financial management and grants management experience on international development projects.
• Knowledge of computerised financial management and accounting
systems (MYoBQuickBooks).
• A very high standard of personal and Financial integrity
• Problem solving and team player with the ability to manage staff and deliver results with a team.
• Proven ability to work under pressure and think laterally in dealing with a wide range of financial issues.
Skills and Abilities
• Strong analytical, problem solving skills including managing interpreting and manipulating large data sets.
• Strong computer skills, especially with accounting software, spreadsheets and financial analysis.
• Previous experience with an international organisation.
• Strong background and knowledge of government regulations and laws, public sector accounting and financial procedures and regulations surrounding international funding is desirable.
• Prior experience reporting to donors and overseeing non-profit budgets
