Job Description


Fairventures Worldwide (FVW) is a German based organization engaged in landscape restoration activities. Our Uganda program aims to find and implement solutions for large-scale restoration of deforested areas. FVW works with small scale farmers in Uganda to implement its reforestation programs. FVW approach to reforestation is through use of fast-growing indigenous tree species in agroforestry systems. FVW implements its programs through partnerships with local farmer groups and community entities for maximum impact and sustainability of projects. The organization is currently seeking to recruit a Finance Officer to manage its financial operations.

Job Summary:
The Finance Officer shall provide financial and administrative support to all projects at the FVW Uganda Country Office. The Finance Officer shall provide leadership and guidance to the finance and accounting team, focusing on outcomes, problem solving and must have excellent communication skills.

Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Country Director, the Finance Officer shall:
• Ensure the financial transactions are properly authorized, recorded, have adequate supporting documentation, filled, maintained and can be easily extracted for the purpose of preparing financial statements; and financial audits;
• Assisting with and/or managing processes, recording, management and reconciliation;
• Assisting with or leading bank reconciliations, cash flow management, uploading monthly accounting and cost projections;
• Assisting and/or leading budget development, account balance management, tax remittance, tax return compilation and activity budget reviews;
• Ensuring proper documentation reviews of all payment requests and vouchers, submission of timely and reliable FVW financial documents and financial reports as well as completeness of field voucher files;
• Monitor budgets and expenditures and contribute to preparation of budget revision
• Reviewing procurement transactions for cost reasonableness;
• Making recommendations to improve payment request reviews, financial controls and policies, and workflow processes;
• Assisting with audit preparation, auditor reviews and implementation of recommendations as directed;
• Check budget lines to ensure that all transactions are booked to the correct budget lines;
• Carry out any other financial assignments as requested by the Country Director.

Education and Experience /Preferred Qualifications
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in any of those fields is an added advantage;
• Minimum of 3years experience with donor funded projects in a finance position;
• Demonstrated experience in preparation of financial reports and budget variance analysis;
• High integrity, strong result orientation, drive for excellence and takes initiative;
• Fluency in English required; working knowledge of other language would be an added advantage;
• Excellent communication and analytical skills;
• Be a team player and proactive.
• Good interpersonal skills and result oriented;
• Work experience with MS Office applications is a must.
