Job Description
NIC Holdings is an insurance group comprising two robust, wholly-owned subsidiaries:
NIC General Insurance Company Limited (NIC General) and NIC Life Assurance Company Limited (NIC Life). This structure complies with the Insurance (Amendment) Act, which mandates the separation of insurance business operations.
NIC Holdings is looking for an experienced person to take up a position of Group Financial Reporting Officer
Job Title : Group Financial Reporting Officer
Reports to : Chief Finance Officer- NIC Holdings
Purpose : Group Budgeting, Taxation and Financial Reporting Functions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Initiate, review and approve daily accounting transactions such as journal vouchers and payment voucher of the Holding company to ensure proper accounting treatment of all transactions.
- Review and approve monthly reconciliation of bank accounts of the Holding company and ensure all identified discrepancies are cleared promptly.
- Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly and other ad-hoc management accounts and reports for the Holding company.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly consolidated management accounts.
- Support preparation of draft annual financial statements of subsidiary companies in compliance with relevant IFRS.
- Prepare draft annual company and consolidated financial statements for the Group in compliance with relevant IFRS and coordinate interim and final audit exercise.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy supporting schedules to the Holding company draft financial statements.
- Ensure Group-wide compliance with extant tax legislations in terms of filling of returns and payments.
- Prepare Group management reports on performance and financial position for quarterly Board Audit and Risk Committee meetings.
- Prepare Group management reports on investment assets, investment income and compliance for quarterly Board Investment Committee meetings.
- Preparation of company and consolidated annual budget for management review and Board approval in line with budget cycle and financial guidelines.
- Develop and recommend changes to the Group’s accounting, investment and credit policies and procedures.
- Train and mentor staff of the finance and accounts department.
- Undertake other assigned tasks.
Requirements
- Academic and Professional Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Social Science or Business Administration (Accounting Major).
- Membership of professional accounting bodies such as ICPAU, ACCA.
- Other relevant post-graduate and professional qualifications.
- Work Experience and Skill set
- Minimum of five (5) years post professional qualification work experience.
- Vast experience in preparing financial statements that comply with all relevant IFRSs, including consolidated financial statements, and management of statutory audit processes.
- Strong understanding of Uganda tax laws and tax administration. Skillful in various tax computation, tax filings and management of relationship with the tax authority.
- Possess excellent knowledge and experience of insurance regulatory and reporting environment.
- Great IT, communication and interpersonal skills are very critical for this role.
- Previous management experience is desirable.
