Equatorial Power is hiring a Junior Technical Analyst to work on the analysis of technical information across Equatorial Power’s projects. This will entail working with solar resource data, consumption data from smart meters and data sheets of various energy system components to design suitable energy systems to meet a variety of needs. Furthermore, this role will require knowledge of clean energy access related projects and preferably knowledge of the agro-value chains in sub-Sharan Africa.

Position title: Junior Technical Analyst

Reports to: Technical Analyst

Location: Kampala

Specific Responsibilities

• Demand analysis: Working with the Data Team to understand the energy demand of an energy project.
• System Design: Using solar resource data, demand data and solar systems component’s data sheet to size and design all components of mini-grids and other energy systems. Your work will go beyond technical design to include performing techno-economic analysis to determine the feasibility of energy projects.
• Operations Support: Support the operations team to maintain and service EP’s operating mini-grids.

Qualifications and competencies

•  Basic knowledge of mini-grid based energy access projects
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyse and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to program in Python or MATLAB or R
• Microsoft Office (Word, Microsoft, PowerPoint
• Strong attention to detail to ensure that systems are designed efficiently
• Knowledge of power systems analysis tools and coursework in energy
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/ Mechanical/ Civil/ Mechatronics/ Energy
• Ability to use think creatively and problem solve independently (particularly by consulting online resources) and doing research
• An ability to adapt to new approaches
• Excellent communication skills in English
