Organizational Setting

Ibero Uganda Ltd. is a company of the Neumann Kaffee Gruppe and one of the leading exporters of high-quality coffee, with warehouses and processing facilities in Kampala and out-stations in all major coffee growing regions of Uganda. In line with the above, Ibero Uganda Ltd. has set up its BLOOM department, as the sustainable buying strategy for Ibero Uganda. The Farmer Services Unit belongs to the BLOOM department, with the view to improve access to fertilizer input for coffee growing farmers in Uganda. The objective is to improve farmers’ livelihood through boosting coffee production and better integration of coffee farmers in the coffee export value chain. Within this framework, Ibero Uganda also works towards the enhancement of the quality produced by farmers and farmers’ groups.
Historically, Ibero Uganda has been essentially evolving in Robusta buying. In 2019, Ibero Uganda decided to develop its Arabica strategy, starting with working in the greater Kasese region, mostly dealing with arabica coffee. Hence, the Kasese Quality Controller will be supporting the development of this region through maintaining the high-quality standards of Ibero Uganda.

Reporting Lines

The Kasese Quality Controller reports to both the Kasese Business Development Officer and to the Head Office Quality Controller.

Key responsibilities

• Be responsible for the quality of the coffee bought from the greater Kasese region
• Communicate with Head Office on available quality of coffee to be bought
• Supervise the buying of the coffee from the Kasese region and organize its transport to and
from Kasese
• Advise on the coffee to be bought
• Cup wugar and drugar to be potentially bought and report on it.
• Oversee processing of Arabica to optimal standards.
• Propose innovations to better perform

Preferred qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in coffee quality (in arabica)
• Technical Diploma and/or Degree in Food Processing Technology or similar.
• Basic Quality Certificate UCDA
• Excellent quality coffee knowledge on arabica
• Ability to train a team on coffee quality.
• Ability to use acquired knowledge to make commercial decisions.
• Ability to work under pressure and close late where necessary.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision.
• Ability to be a good team player.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
• Fluent in English. Lukonzo is an asset.
• Ability to use various technologies.
