We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Legal Manager, Jubilee Life Insurance Company of Uganda. The position holder will report to the Group Company Secretary & Head of Legal Services.
Role Purpose
Primarily responsible for providing legal expertise on legal issues relating to the functions, structures, and activities of the organization and support on issues pertaining to legal and regulatory framework and monitor compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Main Responsibilities
• Review & provide legal advice on tenders, contracts, MOUs and other documents
• Review and update policy documents or any other legal binding documents in relation to the company’s business.
• Laisse with Management to plan and prepare for Board meetings, take the minutes and follow-up on the actions prior to the next meeting.
• Legal advisory to the Board, Senior Management, and the Company at Large both at the operational and strategic levels.
• Liaising with external lawyers on the ongoing court cases and representing the company in Court.
• Draft, coordinate, monitor and evaluate all communications between the Company and other various stakeholders including but not limited to Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), Uganda Retirement Benefits Regulatory Authority (URBRA), Uganda
• Regulatory Authority (URA), Financial Intelligence Authority (FIA).
• Carrying out regular assessments of key Legal risks and advise on the mitigating facts.
• Complaints management for internal and external Complaints
• Filling and monitoring regulatory returns including IRA returns, FIA returns, Company returns
• Hold regular training on key legal and regulatory obligations particularly for employees in positions of high responsibility o rwho are involved in high-risk activities and strict vetting of staff as stipulated by the laws and regulations and facilitating confidential reporting by employees for concerns, shortcomings or potential or actual violations in respect of insurer internal policies, legal or regulatory obligations, or ethical considerations.

Qualifications
• Bachelor of Law Degree
• Admitted Advocate of the High Court with a current practising certificate
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft office suite and packages
Relevant Experience
Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in a large and reputable firm/ Organisation.
