JOB DETAILS:

Asaak is a Ugandan fintech startup providing asset financing to SME’s through a mobile app and was the first digital lender in the country. We are looking to hire a Luganda Research Assistant for temporary work in our Kampala office. We are looking for a detail-oriented person with strong written and spoken language skills in both English and Luganda. This position requires excellent knowledge of both English and Luganda grammar, the ability to think critically and creatively, attention to detail, and a team-oriented attitude. Prior experience with translation, editing, and writing is a plus. Prior experience with Google Drive, Google Docs, and other web-based software is a plus.

Responsibilities:

• Collect hundreds or thousands audio samples of spoken Luganda and write out the words in Luganda. Upload audio files to a database.
• Translate written Luganda text to written English.
• For a given Luganda sentence, identify each word as a verb, noun, direct object, indirect
• object, preposition, etc. (parts of speech)

Qualifications:

• A minimum of a diploma or bachelor’s degree holder in any recognized university.
• Specialty and knowledge of English and Luganda is a MUST, both written and spoken.
• Linguistics knowledge or training is a plus.
• Prior experience with translation, writing, editing, and teaching languages is a plus.
