Job Description


Mission/ Core purpose of the Job

 

Managing, building and directing the Finance Operations team, responsible for the provision of accurate and high-quality financial information for the senior management team, the board and external stakeholders to support decision making, business planning and compliance throughout the organisation. Deliver excellent accounting services from Capital Investments, Financial Accounting, Inventory Management/Stock Accounting and Accounts Payable functions while implementing and maintaining strong financial controls.

 

Main Job Functions:

 

  • Lead, develop and motivate the Finance Operations team.
  • Manage all aspects of the day to day activities of the Finance Operations team.
  • Review and take responsibility for Key Financial Controls within all functional areas managed
  • Promote Finance Policies and work with the business to ensure solutions are always achieved within policy constraints.
  • Oversee the Inventory Management/ Stock Accounting policies and processes to minimise financial risk to the organisation.
  • Oversee the statutory interim and annual audits and ensure compliance to IFRS and MTN Group Financial Policies.
  • Resolve all statutory audit items (finance) and report monthly on ALL Statutory Audit Items
  • Oversee the production of monthly reporting and analyze the key performance areas
  • Responsible for Capital Investments Project Management Reporting and Accounting, Financial Accounting, Stock Accounting and Accounts Payable functions.
  • Seek to automate manual controls, processes and instil best practice.
  • Contribute to the strategic and business planning process.
  • To undertake any tasks as assigned by the Head of Finance and Administration from time to time.

Key Performance Areas: Core, essential responsibilities / outputs of the position (KPA’s)

  • Provide leadership, direction and support to the finance operations team
  • Ensure the executive management, the board and other managers are kept informed by provision of accurate and timely financial information
  • Quality and timely financial reporting with reasonable quarterly forecasts.
  • Effective management of the Company Tax position.
  • Effective management of creditors.
  • Effective management of the Fixed Asset Register.

Reduction of outstanding end of year audit issues

Qualifications

Job Requirements (Education, Experience and Competencies)

Education:

  • Bachelor of Commerce or Business degree preferably accounting as a major
  • Professional Qualified Accountant. (CA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA.)

Experience:

  • Over 5 year’s financial accounting/management and business control experience in a busy competitive multinational environment.

Competencies:

Knowledge

  • Thorough knowledge of financial accounting Systems issues which may include the implementation of new systems.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of risk, control and auditing methodologies.
  • Sound general business knowledge as well as knowledge of core business processes.
  • Knowledge of the telecommunications industry would be an added advantage.
  • Ability to generate practical solutions for complex conceptual and strategic problems
