Job Description


Applicants should, among others, have the following competencies:

Minimum Qualification
• Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of an Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration; or Economics; or Mechanical Engineering; or Arts; or Social Sciences; or Mass Communication; or Information Technology; or Transport and Logistics Management; or Master Mariner and Chief Engineer Certificate; or related qualification in Marine Transport from a recognized University/Institution.

Duties
The incumbent will be responsible to the Senior Marine Safety Officer for performing the following duties:
• Participating in the formulation of Polices and strategies intended to promote safety and efficiency of water transport;
• Participating in the development of Merchant safety shipping regulations;
• Supervising manning vessels, qualifications and training of seafarers and issuance of relevant certificates related to manning of vessels;
• Assisting in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of training programs against any maritime conventions;
• Assisting in the management of training, recruitment and welfare of Uganda seafarers;
• Participating in dealing with prevention of collisions of ships and safety of navigation through installation of Aids to Navigation and their maintenance and investigation of maritime related accidents;
• Assisting in the coordination of matters relating to the national maritime search and rescue activities;
• Coordinating hydrographic surveys, dredging works and charting of waterways including updating hydrographic information;
• Ensuring compliance by the Maritime Training Institutes and training centres with STCW 95 convention as amended and other relevant sections of IMO conventions;
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
