The Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is a Ugandan not-for-profit organization whose mission is to strengthen health systems in Africa, with strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training, Research, Laboratory services (including the CAP-certified IDI Core Lab & Translational Lab), Global Health Security and Health System Strengthening.
In order to successfully, implement the project, IDI is looking for a competent and experienced individual to fill the positions below:
Job Title: Medical Clinical Officer

Classification: Fixed Term (Contract), full time
Reports to: Project Coordinator

General summary:
The Clinical Officer will provide technical support to health care workers at supported health facilities in the implementation districts on comprehensive pediatric and adolescent HIV care, treatment and support. They will ensure that mechanisms are in place at all facilities to identify, link and retain pediatric and adolescent clients in care.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide technical assistance and mentorship for health workers on pediatric and adolescent HIV/AIDS care, treatment and support.
• Support early testing for pregnant and lactating mothers at all entry points to aid early identification and enrolment into care for their infants.
• Support and participate in a Continuous Medical Education (CME) program for all staff at the supported health units and clinics.
• Support coordination of health education talks on pediatric and adolescent HIV/AIDS with focus on identification, linkage to care and retention in care.
• Lead and strengthen quality improvement activities in all HIV/AIDS at all supported facilities.
• Support referral and linkages to HIV care for pediatric and adolescent, clients receiving care at supported facilities
• Together with the data team, provide continuous clinical mentoring in all areas including HMIS reporting for all related MoH reports and project specific indicators.
• Preparing monthly performance reports on progress on the project goals.
• Other duties as may reasonably be assigned from time to time

Person specifications:
• Diploma in Internal medicine
• Certificate in HIV/AIDS management
• At least 2-3 years’ work experience in a clinical HIV/AIDS setting.
• Experience in clinical care of infants and children and adolescents would be an advantage
• Experience in working with both government and private facilities is an added advantage
• Good interpersonal skills required
• Ability to interact productively and work in a team environment
• Self-motivated, innovative and capable of meeting deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills required (Both oral & written)
• Must be willing to travel and provide care services at selected health facilities and outreaches
• Report writing skills and good computer skills especially Microsoft word, excel and power point.
